Agile manufacturing is one of manufacturing models that fit to the global dynamic environment in the 21st century. And agile information system is one of the key factors of agile manufacturing. According to the status of correlative technologies and the direction of development, as well based on the idea of domain engineering, the key technologies of agent oriented agile information system (AOAIS) and their application are deeply studied in this paper by combing the management model from the macro and micro viewpoint. The main aspects are as follows: 1. The theory model and architecture of AOAIS: the disjunctive reasons between theory and realization of agent are analyzed. According to the requirements of individual intelligent and social interaction ability of agent, the relations between properties and mental states of agent is taken into account through comprehensive logical and economics analysis. Thus the agent system is established and the individual architecture is constituted. Furthermore the concept and the basic idea of AOAIS architecture as well as the Semantic Web-oriented AOAIS architecture are also presented. And meanwhile the structure, function and the components are analyzed. 2. The interaction and communication mechanism of AOAIS: the disadvantages of the present agent communication languages (ACLs) are researched and accordingly Semantic Web-oriented ACL DAML is adopted. The concept of ontology, as well the function in the field of communication is also set forth. At the same time, multi content languages are brought into one communication framework in AOAIS and translation between ontology is discussed briefly. Capability-matching algorithm is deeply discussed by adopting DAML_S as agent capability description language and the interaction course and realization of handshaking mechanism is described, too. 3. The cooperation mechanism of AOAIS: according to theory model and architecture as well as interaction and communication mechanism of AOAIS, the agent cooperative framework based on commitment and convention is proposed by predigesting and summing up the theory. Then, the cooperation process, as well organization and structure, is analyzed. Simultaneously, some useful cooperative methods and coordination and negotiation mechanism are probed which fit to this framework. 4. The studying mechanism of AOAIS: the fundamentals of learning in AOAIS, including the situation, the content and the method, are all investigated. Moreover the case based reasoning and studying as well as the application and realization methods of reinforcing learning in negotiation are also discussed. 5. The modeling technology of AOAIS: experiences in agent oriented software engineering at present are summarized and architecture-centric modeling method for AOAIS is put forward. Subsequently, the key elements of modeling and expatiated on the relations among model, ontology and system are illustrated. 6. Applications: the agile manufacturing planning and scheduling system is modeled by architecture-centric method of AOAIS. The domain model and ontology as well as application ontology are set up according to the top ontology of enterprise. Then, the semantic Web oriented enterprise capacity model is established. The system requiring model, social model, individual model and realization model are founded step by step according to domain model and ontology.
