As we move into the 21st century, the era of knowledge economy, a globalizing economic environment based on knowledge and science, competition and cooperation is shaping. Since China has entered WTO, all domestic enterprises, including process industrial enterprises, must follow the uniform rule of the market. To enter and win the market first, enterprises must rely on themselves so as to reduce the manufacturing cost, explore the market and strengthen their competitive capability, as by improving management, promoting creativity and making best use of current boosting IT (information technology). Overview the strategies of multinationals shows that they attach much attention on IT to strengthen their competitive capability in the new situation. Syntheses automation system is a effective strategy to realize.the above object for process industrial enterprise. Based on the author's practices and experiences from working many years in enterprise, guided by the theory of syntheses automation system, this dissertation is exploring to establish an syntheses automation system frame suitable for process industrial enterprises in China. The author designs and participates in the establishment of syntheses integrated software platform and some application modules in syntheses automation system as requested, such as manufacturing plan optimization and storage management etc. The security issue is also considered in the design of syntheses automation system. The author practically participates in applying the syntheses automation system to an enterprise as well. The main contents of this dissertation are briefly summarized as follows:(1) The history of Computer Integrated Manufacturing System (CIMS) is reviewed briefly. The designing, development and application of Computer Integrated Process System (CIPS) are also summarized. The discrepancy between CIPS and CIMS is analyzed. Based on summarizing the achievements of former researchers on the designing, development and appliance of CIPS and the author's working experience in enterprise for many years, and also considering the characteristic of process industrial enterprises, this dissertation puts forward an syntheses automation system platform for process industrial enterprises which is grounded upon three-layer pattern, two sets of databases and efficient integration; it also gives concise description of the function of every modular composing of the syntheses automation system.(2) The syntheses integrated software platform, ESP-PlantJet is designed and developed first, in the sequence of importance of modular components in the?syntheses automation system. It is based on the J2EE technical frame and has the characteristics of friendly interface, easy maintenance, high reliability and convenient operation. At the same time, the platform can also be used to develop function modules of the syntheses automation system.(3) Because of the importance of the manufacturing plan and the enormous benefits of its optimization in enterprise, the manufacturing plan optimization software, ESP-Planning, is developed specifically for the process industrial enterprises under Windows, using object oriented designing and GUI mould-building method, with a commercial optimizer and database technology. It has the characteristics of convenient mould-building, reliable optimization of operation, and easy integration. It may become an effective assistant of the manufacturing plan for process industrial enterprises.(4) The security and reliability is the prerequisite for syntheses automation system. Thus we consider security and reliability in two aspects, both the hardware of basic network facility and the software system. A role-based security mechanism is applied to ensure a user could only read what he should do to guarantee the safety and reliability of information in syntheses automation system.(5) An actual application example of a synthetic rubber factory is discussed to describe application of the syntheses automation system and its function modules.
