Studies on News Writing Reform from a Narratology's Perspective Goethe said, " All the things worth being contemplated have been pondered byhuman beings. What we must do is nothing more than trying to consider them inanother way." This dissertation is mainly focuses on the history of the reform of newswriting in a new view — — narratology. For the object of our research is the history of news writing, instead ofresearching the object according to temporal and developing sequence totally, we usetransverse analyse in the beginning, then summarize and analyze length ways. Thisdissertation figures out that, owing to the reform of news writing ,a lot of changeshave taken place in the visual angle of news writing ,the main body of news depictionand the structure of news. Although unique visual angle is a common praise whenpeople comment on a news report, as far as most research of the news writing isconcerned, the visual angle of depiction is neglected completely. From the theory ofvisual angle of depiction, the reform of news writing is also a process that the visualangle of news writing transforms from single to multifarious. It is because of theadding of visual angle of people's knowledge limits, objective visual angle anddepiction of visual angle of compound to the visual angle of omniscience, the socialprospects shown by news report were extended, and news depiction became morelively and objective. The phenomena of journalists appearing in the news report andwriting news in the first person became more and more common after the newsreform. The interposition of journalists in news affairs went through a process ofbecoming more deeply and then flatter. The change of this narrating strategy hasstrengthened the function of journalists. In addition, the role of journalist begins to fallapart in modern times. Besides being mouthpiece of traditional collectiveconsciousness, journalists also act as expresser of personal consciousness andobjective agency. This new trend is influenced by many factors including multifariousideologies, multifarious functions of news and so on. The supreme status of theso-called" xinhua" style, representation of Chinese news report in the past, waswavered by a new writing style ------ prosaic news. After that, the structure of newswent ahead along following two breakthroughs: with canonical mode or not, givingpriority to propaganda or news facts. This thesis suggests that although the focus ofreform alters in different periods, the whole tendency is regressing to news, which isalso the permanent motif of news reform in the future. In order to make this research accurate and comprehensive, we made creativecategorizations among the visual angles and structures of news depiction according tothe theory of narratology. Four visual angles of news depiction were differentiated bythe visual angle theory of narratology. It was also connected to the characteristics andchanges of the visual angles of news depiction in new period. Because the newsstructures were classified by styles in traditional theories of news writing, theinduction of three modes in this research: propaganda mode, news mode and storymode is bound to add something new to the research of traditional news writing.Further more, this thesis unscrambles the familiar modes of news report in a new way,including conference reporting, participant reporting, the" xinhua" style and prosaicnews. What' s more, the stylebooks used in this research are among the 600 pieces ofprize work of nine National Good News prize and thirteen Chinese News prize. Thus,this thesis is also a comprehensive evaluation on Chinese topmost prize work in newsfield.
