The Analysis Of Television News Program From The Perspective Of Narratology

The combination of television and news reporting makes news much moreinfluential by providing it with a broader communicative and expressive platform.Television, with its specialty of medium technology added to the nature of news,makes the differences of TV news programs on special topics from the otherprograms, and meanwhile endows them with various narrative traits. The thesisintends to explore the narrative patterns and traits of the TV news programs on specialtopics based on the analysis of “Morality Observation”, a nationwide program ofCCTV-12.In the thesis, the author, guided by the theory of narratology, made detailedanalysis on365programs of “Morality Observation” in2013. During the process,semiotics analyzing, discourse analyzing and sample anatomy analyzing are appliedto the content and form like the discourse, the structure and narrative structural traitsof program as well. By doing so, the author hopes to discover the successes, existingproblems, and solutions so as to provide a guideline or reference for other programsof the same kind.The thesis includes five chapters. The introduction mainly focuses on the origin,purpose and significance of the research, giving a panorama of news narratologyresearch condition in China; The second chapter not only clears up narratology theoryand narratology research development in news, but gives a clear explanation on thespecialty of narrative traits of news discourse by comparing narrative traits of newsdiscourse and literary discourse. The third chapter then analyzes the narrative signs of“Morality Observation” from the perspective of linguistic signs and non-linguisticsigns by applying the semiotic methodology. The fourth chapter illustrates theconstitution of narrative discourse by analyzing discourse construction of “MoralityObservation” in four dimensions of the narrator, the narrative focus, the narrative tine,and the narrative receptor. The fifth chapter summarizes the narrative traits of theprogram and proposes some tentative thoughts on the underlying problem and futuredevelopment of the.program.
