This article is intended to make a study of Xuxiu Siku quanshu zongmu tiyao, which compiled by the Japanese Committee for Oriental Culture(Toho bunka jimu iinkai) in the early days of Republic. The article is divided into two parts; the first one deals with the history of the compilation of Xuxiu Siku quanshu zongmu tiyao, including its background, institution, process, and the life and work of the compilers, while the other one with the research of more than 34000 abstracts, just as its compilation style, content, edition, catalog and so on . In addition, there is special chart of supplement and correction, and the history of the study of this work is provided..Xuxiu Siku quanshu zongmu tiyao is the largest-scale annotated catalog of ancient document taking the Japanese refundment of Boxer indemnity 1900 as a fundation, and hadn't been entirely published until the end of 90s. Therefore, there is little study about this work, for the moment. The article examines the compilation process of this large-scale project and its content, and on this condition, we affirm its reference value for the study of tradition culture. And the work is also beneficial to summarize the study achievement from the middle period of the Qing to the early days of the Republic, and to find out the condition of ancient literature after the completion of Siku quanshu zongmu tiyao.We hope the article can be the readers' guide to Xuxiu Siku quanshu zongmu tiyao, and at the same time it can offer credible reference for the compilation of the annotated catalog ofantient books of past dynasties .
