Along with the scale of distributed simulation applications expanding, Interest Management has been an important research aspect of distributed simulation domain. Interest management has mainly two goals, one is reduction of irrelevant data to flow to additional simulation nodes and network bandwidths to consume, the other is to cut down the consumption of performing data filtering in receiving simulation nodes. Interest management in High Level Architecture (HLA) points mainly to Data Distribution Management (DDM), its implementation scheme influences extremely robusticity, flexibility, scalability and effectivity of Run Time Infrastructure (RTI). Different schemes result in completely different performance of RTI.Firstly, this paper introduces relevant theories about Interest Management. It analyses disadvantages existing in previous simulation protocols, then gives data filtering technologies in general distributed simulation systems including Dead Reckoning, data bundling and data compression. In this paper it also explains the conceptions of Interest Management, illustrates concerned applications and points out developing trends of modern Interest Management system.Secondly, this paper does research on Interest Management in HLA in details. It sets forth relevant conceptions of DDM in IEEE 1516 Interface Specification, including dimension, range, region, update region set and subscription region set. Then it divides data filtering mechanism into four steps, consisting of region declaring, region matching, link establishing and data transmitting. And it displays the essence of DDM by researching on DDM's formalization, comparison about previous specification, algorithm computational complexity and NP-completeness.Thirdly, this paper selects three technologies being applied in RTI's implementation and gives a clear explanation. They are linking problem, client/server communication mode and synchronous or asynchronous mode. It is advantageous that readers understand RTI's implementation scheme and technologies.Finally, the paper gives author's mainly creative work in details including designment, implementation and testing of light-weight DDM. The work involves:1 Based on the analysis of previous DDM schemes, considering source-based, destination-based, intermediate filtering mechanism, this paper gives clearly reason and excellence of selecting light-weight mode architecture;2 The paper displays light-weight DDM scheme in details, including the relationship of DDM service with other services and object attributes, relevant element designment and algorithm designment;The paper analyses information flow in light-weight DDM scheme, dividing all implementing classes of IEEE 1516 Interface Specification, showing DDM federate process and explaining how to use "Infantry Division Landing Island Joint Warfare Simulation System" to test all DDM implementation algorithms.
