Roller profile measure set is in a multi-subject cross field of high technology , and it has been under development and research so far. The sheet metal is in great demand in modern industry. In addition to physical and chemical performance, the main quality criteria are geometrical dimension and shape precision, such as, sheet metal's thickness difference, thickness uniformity, smooth level and surface defect, etc. In the sheet metal molding, rolling technique is a key link which will affect the quality. Roller is an important tool in the link, and whether its surface shape reaches the need of design will directly affect the quality of sheet metal. A used roller should always be detected when it must be repaired to recondition its precision for surface abraded. On-Line Roll Grinder(ORG), as the principal part of the techniques of working roller abrading uniformity, consists of On-Line Profile Measure(OPM) and Grinder. According to quality request of sheet and the surface quality of roller, working roller is affected by whole grinding, sect difference grinding or mixed grinding, all recur to OPM or the pre-outline mathematical model. The means and techniques of On-Line Grinding sheet working rolling mill are high-tech; in the meantime, they are also the kernel techniques of carrying out free programming rolling. However, due to the high-tech roller detector which is not developed, it is still in the stage of Open Loop On-Line Grinding.Now, without OPM, the ORG used in large sheet roller at home, only depends on pre-preyed model to carry out the grinding to working roller. Thus, working roller to perform uniform accurate grinding has not become true for roller surface rigidity and ORG grinding wheel rigidity fluctuating result in excessive or deficient roller grinding. This paper focuses on developing effective noncontact detecting means in OPM and data processing means.First, this paper presents the category of roller grinding in the process of sheet rolling and discusses noncontact detecting means, which have been reported many times at present, including ultrasonic detecting, eddy current detecting, laser detecting and the means of detecting displacement with CCD. At the same time, this paper selects the CCD detecting means after analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of various detecting means.Second, on account of working environment and technical request of roller, laboratory experiment is done about the mathematical model of noncontact detecting means, including ascertaining a circle with three points, means of optic triangle and means of detecting distance by CCD. Then a feasible mathematical model of roller's On-Line detecting is given, the condition of modeling and the relationship of theory between roller detecting and the edge detecting are analyzed, and eventually, processing flow of detecting data is given.Third, the basic conception of mathematical morphology is introduced. With the request of practical task, the means of wave filtration in mathematical morphology is applied into practice; then, the basic principle of morphology was proved and the foundation of morphology is established. Meanwhile, the construction principles of structure element and the means of combination of application about multi-structure element are given.Fourth, the means of present wave filtration are discussed, including wave filtration of frequency, wave filtration of space, averaging of border upon region, wave filtration of middle value, etc. and these means are compared with wave filtration in morphology, then classic edge detecting arithmetic is done, and edge detecting arithmetic about sub-pixels is given.Fifth, for the detecting request and detecting precision of roller profile are high, the inside and outside parameters of general CCD camera and the parameters of detecting system are changing with the working condition; if not demarcated, the detecting precision of detecting system will be affected.
