Together with the continual develop of high power self-turn-off devices and intelligent high-speed microcontroller, high power electronic equipment is increasingly deeply studied and is more and more widely applied in large capacitance motor drive, power transmission and so on. On the realization of high power electronic equipment, an important problem is that the working frequency of high power devices is too low to apply excellent modulated technique such as PWM. Sampling Time Staggered Space Vector Modulation technique (abbreviated as STS-SVM) presented in this paper is just about a novel modulated technique to solve the problem mentioned above. In this paper, the principle of STS-SVM as well as its realizing method in multi-modular converters and cascade multilevel converters is presented, and the primary discussion of its application on active power filter and AC transducer is put up.In the beginning, the basic principle and algorithm of SVM technique are introduced, and the inherent relationship of SVM and SPWM is analyzed. Based on the carrier phase-shifted SPWM (abbreviated as CPS-SPWM), STS-SVM together with its realizing method is put forward. The output harmonic feature of the multi-modular converters with STS-SVM is researched and analyzed through simulation and experiment, compared with the conventional SVM and CPS-SPWM. It is proved that STS-SVM can reach an effect of higher equivalent switching frequency under much low real device switching frequency. This technique improves the equivalent switching frequency through the counteract of lower order harmonics but not simply through processing the harmonic from lower order to higher order, so that it is with a perfect performance on harmonic feature. Compared with CPS-SPWM, STS-SVM is with higher linear operating range, lower device switching frequency and easier implementation by digital. STS-SVM is more suitable for motor drive occasion thanks to its direct hunting the trace of motor magnetic field, compared with CPS-SPWM.STS-SVM is a novel modulated technique of perfect quality, but encounters trouble in the exaltation of the power class due to the transformer or reactor through which multi-modular converters accomplish the connection among the converter units. Multilevel converters avoid the use of transformer or reactor and suit more for high power occasion. Of all kinds of multilevel converters, cascade multilevel converters have many advantages as follows: 1) the amount of the devices is the least, 2) DC bus voltage balance is easier implemented, 3) each level has same structures and is easy to design and assembly modularizedly. Thus, if the STS-SVM can be employed in cascade multi-level converters, the advantages of STS-SVM and cascade multilevel converters will be put forth more sufficiently. The realizing method of applying STS-SVM in cascade multilevel converters is presented in this paper, and contrastive study of STS-SVM along with stair case waveform PWM and multilevel SVM is fulfilled.Cascade STS-SVM multilevel converters are with good prospect in engineering due to its perfect performance. In this paper, the applications of cascade STS-SVM multilevel converters on active power filter and AC motor vector-controlled transducer are researched through simulation. In applied system of paralleled active power filter, the advantage of cascade multilevel converters is put forth sufficiently because of no need for active power on DC bus. Moreover, the excellent signal-transmitting feature of STS-SVM is also employed all right. In AC motor vector-controlled speed-adjustable transducer system, cascade STS-SVM multilevel transducer can reach good effect at much low device switching frequency and reduce the electromagnetic interference.The design of a three-phase three-level STS-SVM transducer prototype is accomplished in this paper, which is the simplest structure of three-phase cascade STS-SVM multilevel transducer.
