Cluster system is one of the hot spots in the research area of high performance computer,while System Area Network (SAN) that used to connect nodes is considered to be the key point in the cluster system The aims of this paper are to study dedicated high performance SAN network based on distributed shared memory architecture,and set up cluster system with high price performance ratioThe main work and originalities in this paper list as followings:1. A new HVIA architecture based on VIA (Virtual Interface Architecture) is put forwardo HVIA shortens the delay of remote memory access by 24.5% compared with VIA architecture,and the end-to-end bandwidth is increased by 80.5% because of the implementation of zero-copy protocol compared with non-VIA architecture o2. As head of the project,the scheme of a high performance SAN network:HVIA-Net based on HVIA architecture is proposed The HVIA-Net is comprised of two components:Network Interface Controller (NIC) and Network Route Controller (NRC) NIC is a bridge between PCI bus and NRC,and NRC is a 6x6 crossbar Three kinds of data transfer modes that used for message passing and system area synchronizations are supported in the HVIA-Net3. Designed and implemented NIC with 0.35 um very large scale Application Specified Integrated Circuit (ASIC) The die size of NIC reaches 350K gates and run at 200MHz4. A design method of PCI interface backend based on hardware buffer is proposed,and the difficult problem of implementing 66MHz PCI interface is solved5. A multiple-stage dynamic phase adjustment method between source synchronization driving clock and date is proposed;it fits different operation frequencies and improves the system stability6. A very long burst read and combined write scheme on PCI bus is proposed to achieve maximized PCI performance Test results show that end-to-end bandwidth is about 175MB S in single-net system and over 300MB S in double-net system The performance of HVIA-Net is Endsville compared with current high performance commodity network in the worldHVIA-Net has successfully been used in galaxy super server...
