The fast development of internet and software bring us a new wave of technology revolution. It is very important and necessary to apply those advanced software technology into the design of advanced process control (APC) software, otherwise we will be eliminated from the market. Our national industry of APC has dropped behind others very much and the market is primarily hold by those big oversea companies. There are several limitations in existing APC software products as follows: (1) poor function and low integration; (2) appropriative driver with poor openability; (3) inflexible structure with poor adaptability; (4) low reusablility and poor stability. The right way is utilizing the key software technology to design APC software and this will bring us the chance to break the monopolization. Thus this paper mainly studies the design and development of APC software based on distributed component object model technique. The paper summarized and studied the distributed component technique, e.g. COMIDCOM and OPC specification, and then put forward the design mode of APC software. Afterwards, the predictive control software package and the autotuning software package have been designed and developed based on COM./OPC technique. Meanwhile, advanced control language SCX and corresponding developing environment based on JX-300X DCS system have been designed combining with special project. In addition, the technique for overcoming load disturbance in autotuning controller has been studied. Up to now, most of the research results presented in this paper have been successfully applied in a lot of projects. The research works can be summarized as follows: 1) The history of distributed component technique, the COMJDCOM specification and its application in the industrial automation have been dissertated in detail. Then, the well-known realization of applying COMJDCOM in industry automation, e.g. OPC, has been discussed about its Iv basic principle, special background, application framework and its application in industry automation. In conclusion, the method of using COMIDCOMIOPC to design APC software has been brought forward. 2) Based on the famous HIECON model-based predictive control technology (imported from Adersa Co., France) of Zheda SUPCON, APC-Hiecon software package has been developed. This software package has powerful function, good operability, flexibility, reliability, high maintainability and it can overcome the disadvantages of traditional APC software. APC-Hiecon has been successfully applied in more than ten projects. 3) Anti-load disturbance is an important capability of the automatic tuning of controller. Biased-relay has been used to overcome load disturbance during the automatic tuning of multiloop system. Combining biased-relay with sequence tuning, we can get exact parameters of automatic tuning. Simulation shows that the method is very efficient for counteracting the load disturbance. 4) Automatic tuning is a very useful APC technique in practice. But traditional auto-tuner is lack of universal platform, computer aided design and simulation environment. Based on the study results of automatic tuning in the institute of APC, Zhejiang University, the distributed autotuning software package is provided. The package has a powerful distributed application framework and provides us an authoritative controller tuning solutions.
