The Psychoanalysis Of Self-presentation On Personal Journal Blog

With the development of the internet, many internet users like to blog their daily events and inner states on online. The number of personal journal blog user becomes larger and larger, and blog becomes module in other internet applications. Many issues of blogging are worthy to analyze. So it is momentous theoretical and current significance to research on personal journal blog. Besides the dramaturgical theory on Self-presentation, this study also applies Cognitive Dissonance Theory, Communication Boundary Management Theory, Field Theory and other theories on self-disclosure, self-concealment and selves. This study analyze the objects, motivations, ways, and results about the self-presentation on personal journal blog generally and deeply. Based on the finding of CNNIC about bloggers, this study choose fifteen bloggers as unstructured interviewer, ten blogs of different individuals as cases, and surveyed one hundred and nineteen bloggers online. Through that the study found that blogging is open, interactive, and selective. Bloggers present themselves when blogging. They present themselves on the pages, in the essays and during the interaction with readers. The readers of personal journal blog are various, diversified and regularly stable. The bloggers self-present to themselves, their relatives and friends or strangers online. Who can visit depends on the openness of the blog. Bloggers present differently to different readers. As being absolute and relative, bloggers should meet their demands, keep cognitive fitting and self-consistency. So they expect to fulfill themselves and develop intercourse with others though self-presenting on personal journal blogs. Self-disclosure is the basic way of self-presentation on personal journal blogs. And self-concealment is the protective way. The levels of self-disclosure and self-concealment on messages are different not only between individuals but also within one individual. The relationship between self-disclosure and self-concealment is complicated. Different factors of the internet, social culture and blogger themselves will increase or reduce'the levels of self-disclosure and self-concealment. The bloggers manage the boundary between the public and private through coordinating the self-disclosure's level, the expressing of messages and the approaches to the blog. So the bloggers present their actual selves, real selves, possible selves and idealized selves on personal journal blogs. At the same time the bloggers construct their individual selves, relational selves and collective selves. So to the individuals, the self-presentation on personal journal blogs is actually significant.
