As a very important scholar in Chinese modern history of newscommunication, Chen Duxiu's press practice and communication of ideasshould gain much attention. Due to various reasons, however, previous studiesare inadequate enough. From the perspective of news communication history,this paper focuses on the process of Chen Duxiu's newspaper practice andcommunication of ideas in his early years (1897-1921), On this basis, ChenDuxiu's particular communication of ideas will be deeply discussed in thisthesis.The introduction part clarifies the value and significance of the study.firstly, The research status of Chen Duxiu's early newspapers practice andcommunication of idea will be summarized. after that, the deficiencies ofexisting research will be discussed in this part. Moreover, besides some keyconcepts and related issues, the focus, difficulties and innovation of this paper,will be examined.As a clue with Comment on the Yangtze River Situation, chapter Ireviews how Chen Duxiu's mentally changed form a scholar to a reformist.Chen Duxiu's communication of practices and ideas in his infancy. will beanalyzed. It is indicated that, Comment on the Yangtze River Situation wasthe preview, which Chen Duxiu's first involved in the media. Thus, his careerin newspaper could actually be traced back ever since then.Chaper II examines Chen Duxiu's communication practice in Late QingDynasty. It is argued that Chen Duxiu's main purpose is Enlightenment ratherthan revolution. this chapter gives a more detailed introduction to his twospeeches, and discusses his status and contribution in National Day Daily. Itis pointed out that Chen was not only the sponsor, but also the editor-in-chiefof the newspaper. also, Moderate, the characteristics of the National Day Dailyhad close relationship with Chen's participation. Furthermore, the destinationof the authors of Foreword and the World Wind Metamorphosis in the Past40 Years will be discussed. These two articles were both obviously influenced byChen Duxiu's style, providing a reliable text to study Chen's communication ofideas before Anhui Saying was publicized. after analyzing the content of AnhuiSaying, the purpose of the newspaper and its nature("colleagues' publication"),will be discussed. particularly, the newspaper's column, Comment, will befocused on. finally, the historical status of Anhui Saying will be discussed. Itcan be concluded that, the newspaper was the press leader during the lowerclass Enlightenment Movement in late Qing Dynasty.Chapter III examines Chen Duxiu's newspapers practice during the MayFourth New Culture Movement. In Jiayin section, Chen Duxiu's status in Jiayin,the relationship between Jiayin with New Youth, and the main argument--"anevil state worse than no state"--in Patriotism and Consciousness, will beexamined. In New Youth section, the journal's purpose, authors, readers,content, and historical status will be discussed. also, Some current researchfocus, such as, the splitting of its authors, intense remarks of the May4thYouth will be involved. It is believed that New Youth is not only the peak ofChen Duxiu's newspaper career, but also a model of Chinese Enlightenmentpress. In Weekly Review section, in addiction to the journal's purpose andcontent, its comment features, contribution to the spread of Marxism, andChen Duxiu's speech(ie,"sole eye brings lights") and practice will be focusedon. It is believed that Weekly Review was not only the "new wave" of commentpress, but also, together with New Youth, led the New Culture Movement inthat period.Chapter IV focuses on Chen Duxiu's communication of ideas in his earlyyears. His ideas are composed of three parts——the theme of spreadingpatriotic concern for the people, the purpose to spread the Enlightenment, andliberal communication of ideas. The first two parts consists two main linesthroughout Chen Duxiu's newspaper practice, while another part, liberalism isan important feature of his preliminary communication of ideas. Chen Duxiu'searly communication of ideas can be described as "thriving", just like his name, Duxiu.After a brief review of Chen Duxiu's newspapers practice in his early years,the unique value of his newspaper practice and communication of ideas will bassessed at the end of the paper. Both the unique characteristics and specificquality of the value will be decribed in conclusion. Moreover, both ChenDuxiu's newspaper practice and social revolutionary activities will be highlyevaluated. It is indicated that he was a practitioner to unify knowledge andaction as one, which made an example for modern Chinese intellectuals. Forone thing, his knowledgle and insights reflected the respectable personality ofindependent thinking intellectuals in pursuit of the truth. For another, his actionwithout turning back, excluding gains and losses, highlighted hispersistentance and guenuiness. In addition, Chen Duxiu's tragic significancewill have a tentative interpretation.Finally, Chen Duxiu's unique value and historical status (including hisstatus in the history of newspapers practice and communication of ideas) inmodern Chinese society in transition will be discussed. It can be concludedthat, Chen Duxiu was not only an ideological giant in modern China intransition, but also an action giant to transform the society, He not onlycontributed to the revolutionary activities and promoting social progress, butalso left a precious legacy to the many areas such as Chinese intellectualhistory, cultural history, and news history. Chen Duxiu's true face, shadowedfor various reasons, will be comprehensively, objectively and fairly evaluated inhistorical research. His glorious side will be known and recognized by moreand more people!...
