Wang Xianqian's Han Shu Bu Zhu

Based on Yan Shigu's Han Shu Zhu, Wang Xianqian's Han Shu Bu Zhu not only collected 67 Han Shu note-markings after the Sui Dynasty, but also made further research for Han Shu. Han Shu Bu Zhu has been become the most important book in research on Han Shu or the history of Xi Han Dynasty. This dissertation attempts to study Han Shu Bu Zhu from every sides in order to judge its academic position in Han Shu research accurately and highlight Wang Xianqian's academic achievements.By analyzing the historical data and citing rules of Han Shu Bu Zhu, the dissertation considers Han Shu Bu Zhu was written by Wang Xianqian himself rather than completed by many people.The dissertation reviews the important commentators' research achievements and research methods in the research history of Han Shu specifically. This dissertation overall analyzes the condition of Han Shu Bu Zhu adopted results of previous studies about Han Shu by summing up the cite rules of Han Shu Bu Zhu, quantitatively analyzes the components of this book adopted results of previous studies about Han Shu.On the proofreading, Wang Xianqian adopted the collating achievements of former scholars. Wang Xianqian full proofread Han Shu between the copy published by Wu Ying Dian and the copy published by Ji Gu Ge, which is the first full proofread in the history of Han Shu research. Wang Xianqian also used other copys and other methods to proofreading. Large numbers of proofread notes of Han Shu Bu Zhu were adopted by the copy of Zhong Hua Shu Ju.On the explanation, based on Yan Shigu's Han Shu Zhu, Wang Xianqian nearly collected all the notes of Han Shu before Yan ShiGu and the notes after Yan ShiGu, adopted some related explanation of Shi Ji, Wen Xuan and Zi Zhi Tong Jian. Wang Xianqian also explanated the text by the exegetical methods of Qian Jia. There are almost no remaining meanings of Han Shu after the completion of Han Shu Bu Zhu.On the historical event collation, based on former scholars, Wang Xianqian almost checked all the different of historical records among the Ji, Zhuan, Biao and Zhi, he also checked all the different of historical records between Han Shu and Shi Ji. Wang Xianqian also noted the time, site and person, which helps us read Han Shu more easily.On the note of every Biao, Wang Xianqian adopted the research results and checked all the different historical records between the Biao and Ji, Zhuan, and proofread the mistakes of the text. It is the best note about the Biao of Han Shu.There were many scholars who studied the Di Li Zhi of Han Shu in Qing Dynasty, which was either on detail study or overall study. Based on the results of previous studies, Wang Xianqian proofread the mistakes of the text, studied the site of each county and its history comprehensively. Wang Xianqian also connected each rivers record in he book of Shui Jing Zhu with corresponding counties.Based the research results of Wang Yinglin and Shen Qinhan, Han Shu Bu Zhu adopted some notes of the Yi Wen Zhi by other scholars such as Wang Niansun, Zhou Shouchang. Wang Xianqian made further research by the research method set up by Wang Yinglin.In conclusion, this dissertation considers that though he adopted many methods of previous studies, Wang Xianqian had little new breakthrough; Han Shu Bu Zhu not only adopted all the research achievements of former scholars nearly, but also made further research of Han Shu. There are almost no remaining meanings of Han Shu. So Han Shu Bu Zhu is the synthesizer in research methods and research achievements of former scholars, it has reached the the highest level in the traditional research of Han Shu.
