It has been quite a normal phenomenon in history that many ethnic groups inhabit together in China. In modern society, ethnic minorities become increasingly inhabited together, which is the outcome of gradual modernization process promoted by the Chinese government under the background of globalization as well as that of the development of ethnic minorities. In different regions, people of the ethnic minorities who inhabit together have a small population and live dispersedly, meanwhile their rights and interests are easily ignored and sometimes impaired. As a whole, these minorities possess a large population and distribute in a wide region, so they are one important component of the government's ethnic work. If handled improperly, they will cause chain reaction to the government, even affect the whole country. How to protect their rights and interests, cultures and their relations with the mainstream society has become a new difficulty in China's ethnic work, and it is a breakthrough and a new area for China's ethnic research and ethnic work , and it also supplements constructive content to China's development of harmonious society. The Hui nationality has a large population and it is the most widely scattered ethnic minority in China. People of the Hui nationality that inhabit together with many ethnic groups take up more than a half of the population among all the Huis. From the distribution of the population, the Hui nationality inhabit in 98% of the counties, whether in a large or small number, which forms a spatial pattern of nationwide interweaving inhabitation of the Huis with other nationalities. Undoubtedly, the research on the Huis' economy and their relation with the Han nationality is an unneglectable section in the research of the country's ethnic economy and ethnic relations.Theoretically, the research on the economy of the Huis that inhabit together with many ethnic groups could consummate the system of ethnic economics; practically, from the experience and lesson gained by the economic development of the areas inhabited by many ethnic groups, the exploration of ethnic economic development mode according to regions and nationalities could provide decision-making reference to the administrative departments concerning nationalities and religions, and it would promote mutual development of these areas and consolidate national union. At the same time, the relation between the Huis and Hans living in the areas inhabited by many ethnic groups is a dynamic process which goes through a circle from discrepancy to maladjustment (even conflict) toadjustment to harmonization repeatedly. With the change of outer factors (social policies) and inner factors (nationality identification), the nation relations constantly repeat this process in a period of time just like a reaction chain. The development of economy and the change of government policies will change the culture of the Huis and Hans in the areas inhabited by many ethnic group, therefore their society, economy and civilization will change accordingly, as definitely influence the nation relation. Thus we need to renew our knowledge of the Hui-Han relation in the areas inhabited by many ethnic groups, so that we can provide information for the government as well as the departments concerned with nations, religions and culture to make policies, laws and regulations. With the exploitation, transmission and utilization of the cultural advantage of each nationality, the ability of the socialistic market economy to implant culture will also be enhanced and this will promote co-prosperity and harmonious development of all nationalities. The thesis consists of five chapters.
