The coexistent of academic graduate cultivating model and professional graduate cultivating model is not only the common tendency in foreign countries, but also a primary direction for graduate cultivating model reform in our country. This dissertation focuses on the research of graduate cultivating models. The main point is to differentiate the two kinds of model in essence, which aims to structure the two graduate cultivating models with the respective characteristics. The methodology combining the history with reality, home with abroad, theory with practice is followed in the process of research, and the whole dissertation includes four parts as below:First part is introduction, generally giving the cause and meaning of the topic, presenting the condition of study, relevant reviews, research methods, basic thinking and content. Meanwhile, combining the modular theory with systematic theory, author makes a purely theoretical research on the related concepts, basic elements, and context of the graduate cultivating models. This part forms the theoretical basis, as a framework of the whole dissertation.Part two consists of chapter two and chapter three. Author does analysis and comparison from the development of the history and present condition of graduate cultivating models in terms of two dimensions, home and abroad, horizontal and vertical. Chapter two introduces the history of graduate cultivating model of our country, which shows that this model is in the process of transformation from singleness to duality. Meanwhile, with the analysis of present condition of ten universities from different regions (Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, zhejiang, Guangzhou, Hubei, and liaoning), the author works out two main issues of the model, namely, the disconnection of cultivating objective with social development and the resemblance of two models. Chapter three reviews the development process of gradate cultivating model in U.K., U.S. and Germany, analyze the present condition briefly, and generalizes the basic rules and common character of graduate cultivating models in developed country which works as a important reference to theoretic analysis and structure of models in our country.Part three is chapter four. To resolve the key problem in the present graduate cultivating model, this part discusses theoretically a realistic factor that affects the reform of the graduate cultivating model, and illustrates the reason for this reform. On basis of these, the author differentiates the value, characteristics, cultivating object and level of two models, which provide theoretical basis to structure the two cultivating models.Part four covers chapter five and chapter six. It builds two graduate cultivating models fit for the Chinese condition with the respective feature, and proposes some assurance measurements for the coexistence of two models. In the chapter five, in the light to the malpractices of current models in China, with reference of commonality of foreign models, and on basis of the basic principle of graduate cultivating model reform, the author restructures the models of graduate education. In the last chapter, to achieve the result of coexistence with respective emphasis, the author gives some assurance measurements in three aspects, idea transformation, system innovation, and policy support.
