This dissertation is a study about the philosophical methodology of Xiong Shili and Mou Zongsan.(I) By an analysis of the philosophical paradigm's formation and causes in Xiong Shili, I think his philosophical paradigm has a ground in contemporary philosophical context, especially his tutor Ouyang Jingwu's general conception of the nature of disciplines such as religion, science and philosophy in modern Chinese academic context.(II) By an analysis of Xiong Shili's thinking mode of"TI-YONG-BU-ER"and its formation in his works on WEI-SHI-XUE, I think Xiong succeed in construct a ontological scheme based on the relationship between TI and Yong by a comprehensive comparative research among Chinese, Western and Indian philosophy, his system re-interpreted Buddhist conceptions such as"ZHEN-RU","XING","XIANG"and"GONG-NENG"so as to integrating"Noumenon"and"phenomenon"in Western philosophy and"the Metaphysical"and"the physical"in Chinese traditional philosophy into his ontological system which, as the primary characteristics of his thought, express an unifying theoretical system of world-view.(III) There are two categories of"XIN-XING"in Xiong's works, one is plural"ZHONG-SHI"from"the Old-WEI-SHI-XUE", the other is the"BEN-XIN"of"TI-YONG-YI-YUAN"in"the New-WEI-SHI-XUE"reasoned from the ontological mode but not a choose from various theoretical patterns in various Buddhist schools. The combination of ontology and XIN-XING-LUN in Xiong Shili caused complex theoretical consequence. He argued that the conception of"BEN-XIN"in Buddhist schools has a same character as"RU-LAI-ZANG"system in Chinese Buddhism. The spiritual structure in the New-WEI-SHI-LUN is"BEN-XIN"/"XI-XIN"which draws content from two schools of WEI-SHI-LUN, that is, the authentic and the unauthentic. Xiong Shili criticized Confucianism in Song and Min Dynasty from his recognition of the meaning of"XI-XIN".(IV) As Xiong's student, Mou Zongsan has a ontology too. He distinguished ontology as the existential pattern, the spiritual pattern and the Buddhist non-existential pattern. And in Buddhist it could also distinguish the"BIE-JIAO"from the"YUAN-JIAO". Mou Zongsan regarded the mode of"YI-XIN-KAI-ER-MEN"as a common pattern in philosophy and upon which, constructed the Confucian metaphysics of the self-fallen-of–consciousness. His moral metaphysics is grounded in"YUAN-JIAO"pattern of Buddhism and is a system focused on the problem of"YUAN-SHAN"which belongs to a existential pattern of ontology.(V) Mou Zongsan's student Lin Anwu draws traditional Chinese philosophical sources, especially the thought of Wang Chuanshan and Mou's interpretation of Buddhist"YUAN-JIAO"and develop a characteristic paradigm of Chinese hermeneutic ontology which releases from disadvantages in Xiong and Mou's metaphysics and offers a methodological basis for the authenticness of being in empirical level.
