There was a special stag in the development of the frontier region in Xinjiang in Qing Dynasty .For example, there were many changes which made the development of the cities of Xinjiang .These changes were the policy in the bordery area, the boundary line,the administration of Xinjiang, the migration and otherside. The policy in frontier was made in Qing Dynasty which absorbed the policy experience from ancient empires, and it had the result that established the appearment and the development of the cities in Xinjiang frontier area. This policy also was tht decisive factor which formed the basic characteristic of the frontier cities in Xinjiang .At the Xinjiang frontier aera,there were not distinct bordary line in the early period of Qing Dynasty .And in the late period stage ,the significance of the city of frontier changed more notable when we losed large quarter territory in north-west region and was forced to redelimit the boundary in north-west frontier.The cities in Yili region and Kashgaer region appeared different greatly in local environment, hictory, nationality, culture and other field. These cities represented the two typical cities which were located in two different natural regions-the oasis in the north grassland region and in the south agriculture region in Xinjiang. The process of the development of frontier cities in modern history contained important significance. To the system of region cities, this process also made an important effect.This dissertation concentrates on the contrast of region styles and functional styles of frontier aera in Xinjiang in Qing Dynasty. These styles of cities were important ones in every city's styles. The methods of research are determination of region and contrast the differents. Based on the inspect in political economical and literatueral aspects, the researcher devotes to theanalyse and contrast which have the background of policy in frontier in Qing Dynasty and the chang of space. From the research of the development of the frontier policy in Xinjiang and changed process of the functions of cities, there are efforts to contrast the differences in functions of cities ,scale of population, structure and system. And than, the analyse will be made to find the influence factors.Contrasting the differents begins with the regional cities in Yili and in Kashgaer ,the frontier aera in Xinjiang in Qing Dynasty. The dissertation was written from there layers. The first is the foundation of cities and the development of cities which includes analysis of influence factors. For example ,the geographical feacture, the historical and literature, the boundary political and military policy. The second is to analys and contrast the changes of the function of cities and the influence factors. The last layer is analys and contrast the scale of population and the structure and system of cities. So ,we can restore the chang of the function and understand the factors which influenced these changes.There are two geographical space in research, the larger region and the centre cities which was changed in different period.And the inference of the dissertation is that the routes of cities' development are different .The characteristic of the cities in Yili region had the important influence of the policy in the frontier region. And the cities in Kashgaer region had the binded strength of traditional economy and the administrative establishments. Afer the establishment of Xinjiang province, the functions of these cities were enhanced which made them to more perfect in cities' characteristics. By region method and analyse method , this inference appeared in other sides of the cities. There were the scale and the structure of population, the structure of every regions and the degree system of the cities.
