From this point of view, seven classes of motif are generalized. Based on the analysis and research of them, the origins and evolution of the seven classes of motif are stated.Preface chiefly consists of three parts: the statement of studying-motif method and the principles and methods abided by; the elaboration on the value and meaning of the research with studying-motif method, into the influence of Buddhist Sutras on the Six Dynasties' novels, on the basis of the arrangement of historical and current study of the Six Dynasties' novels; and the brief explanation of quoting references.Chapter 1: The Propagation of Buddhism Before Tang Dynasty and Two Normal Forms of the Relation Between the Scholars in the Six Dynasties and Buddhism. In this chapter, mainly through dynamically investigating Buddhist culture before Tang Dynasty, from the angle of the scholars' acceptance of Buddhism, two normal forms of the relation between the scholars in the six dynasties and Buddhism are sketched. Some scholars are characterized by their inquiring into Buddhist doctrines, others are characterized by their taking refuge with Buddhism under the influence of the fashion. Based on this, what is further explored is the way how Buddhism exerted effect on their literary creation through the effect on their cultural mind. This underlines the whole study.Chapter 2: Buddhist Sutras and the Creation of the Six Dynasties'Novels. Buddhist Sutras have impact on the creation of the Six Dynasties' novels. The effects are specifically manifested on the novels where some persons are immoral and know magic arts, on the novels where matters in mundane world are described, and on the novels where Buddhist teachings are propagated. The influence on the first kind consists in the appearance of many new terms and some classic plots coming from Buddhist Sutras.
