Any intact literary and artistic activities consist of three key links: creation, dissemination and reception. It will be difficult to give an exact judge of the laws of literary and artistic activities if you neglect any of them. The study on the dissemination and reception of A Dream of Red Mansions is undoubtedly meaningful for finding out the laws of the emerging, development and prosperity of our literature.According to communication science and Reception-response theory, this article will make a serious study and put forward some ideas on conspicuous and important questions about the dissemination and reception of A Dream of Red Mansions. The full text amounts to seven chapters.Chapter 1 mainly investigates the spread ways and the spread environment of the novel, the receptive angles and behavioral features of readers of the novel, reception-response of Zhi Yan Zhai and the reception of modern writers. Besides, the spread course of A Dream of Red Mansions is following renewal and constant use of technology. In the course of spread of the novel, the spreaders successively used many technological means, for example, copying by hand, printing, electron and Network technology, to intend and increase the result of propagating. In addition, the prevailing of atmosphere of talking freely about love in Ming and Qing Dynasties should be a main reason for the spread of the novel. And political and cultural environment impel to root the novel in the hearts of the people again in modern times.In the history of receiving of A Dream of Red Mansions, readers' visual angles have six conspicuous aspects: 1.understanding the text on the basis of personal experience and moral position, 2.examining A Dream of Red Mansions closely in the light of historical concepts and method, 3.comprehending the novel according to Society Criticism or the theory of class struggle, 4.explaining the novel in accordance with Chinese traditional culture, 5.interpreting the novel in line with humanistic philosophy, 6.enjoying the novel from the literary and aesthetic angle.The receptive activity of Zhi Yan Zhai, who is a particular reader of the novel, has remarkable sample meanings to reception of the novel and four features: namely the complicated vision of reception, unique appreciation way, strong emotional responses, positive guidance of the people. Modern writer's reception and reference of A Dream of Red Mansions are shown as six respects: direct quotation or transplanting, inheritance of the theme of fighting against the Confucian and autocracy, imitation of the describing pattern about loving story between JIA Bao-yu and LIN Dai-yu, development of tragic spirit and nihilism, emulation of the way of portraying literary images and narration.Chapter 2 investigates the indetermination of A Dream of Red Mansions and analyses the reason for the appearance of many sequels about the novel, point out: despite we can't see people's cultural life clearly through these sequels and prefaces, but experience and touch people in old era in the face of this classic work, find out their cultural tastes and stubborn and conservative ideas.Chapter 3 has combed systematically the directory of the dramas about the novel and spread situation of them since Qing Dynasty, and then talked over the important role of different operas in spreading the novel and their traits. The operas about the novel can be looked as a special kind of form of reception on the novel. This chapter has made commentary on some problems, such as receptive concepts and aptitude on the original text from the operas about the novel in Qing Dynasty, misunderstanding and spirit of the times from the operas in the Republic of China and anti-feudal theme from the operas in contemporary society.Chapter 4 has made a systematic arrangement for the folk arts of talking and singing about the novel, which play an important role in spreading A Dream of Red Mansions because of their unique existence pattern and performance artistry. The scripts of Zidishu, Dagu and Tancikaipian about the novel have special artistic value, too. We can still get receptive attitudes of the folk artists from that.Chapter 5 has a specification about the films and television serials of A Dream of Red Mansions; and emphasizes that the films and television serials adapted from the novel in modern society not only spread itself but also affect receptive pattern of its readers.Chapter 6 investigates the spread and reception of the novel in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, America and European countries, especially analyzes translation questions about A Dream of Red Mansions.Chapter 7 makes commentary on the spread and reception of the novel in the Internet, and then it stresses that the Internet supplies a platform where the most of readers and fans of A Dream of Red Mansions can talk freely about their receptive attitudes and slants.
