The dissertation is following the fundamental principles of historical materialism. Based on the theory of Marxism about state and politics, it overall study the relation between state power and the Orthodox Church with a great quantity information. As a result, the dissertation sums up the different historical periods characteristic of the relation of Russian church and state, which is dualistic power structure, and the factors which influence the change of the relation between church and state also have been studied on.The dissertation have five parts:The Kiev-Russ period: The emergence of dualistic power structure resulted from the foundation of the first alliance of church and state was founded. For political and economic benefits themselves', new and developing feudal ruling class introduced, pursued and supported vigorously the development of the Orthodox Church, the Orthodox Church was just set up , its strength was small and weak, so it must depended on state power to develop themselves, as a result, they did their best to service Central state power. During this period, the church and state were mutual rely on existence and utilization, and jointly promoted the feudalization of Russ.The feudal separationist rule period: The dualistic power structure broken-up, means that the first alliance between church and state come to an end, state has crumbled, unitary central state power was no longer in existence. State power was passed into other's hands so that the force of various princes and dukes were more and more mighty, every bishop of diocese eulogized their princes and dukes virtues and achievements.Mongolia-ruling period: For the second alliance of the church and state was founded, the church searched for new political ally. The privileges given by Mongolia-ruler clearly improved their political and economic position. The position of Duchy of Moscow was improved in Russ, It successfully overthrow the ruling of Mongolia by the supporting of the church.Forming Centralization of Power period: the dualistic power structure was renewed, that means the alliance of the church and state was remade. To found the united country, church and state power were mutually support and utiliz,with the strengthening of central state power, church and state power began to struggle, state power began to weaken church's power.Tsar autocratic period: Internal struggling of the alliance of church and state was more and more intense day by day. For the matter of church's privileges and estate, church and state's power have struggled for a long tune. Through the reform of Ivan IV, Nikon and Peter I, in Catherine n period, church had become a docile tool of tsar autocracy.The main factor which influence the change of the relation between church and state are: 1.the growth and decline both church and state's power. The Kiev-Russ period, central state power was strong and church's power was weak, the alliance of church and state was founded. Feudal separationist rule period, central state power was no longer in existence, and not be broken down. The central grade alliance of church and state was broken down. 2.Because of respective and common benefit, church and state formed the alliance again. Unified country is of benefit to the developing both church and state. Because of different benefit, internal struggling of the alliance of church and state is continual, such as the matter of church's estate. To consolidate themselves the foundation of ruling, state confiscated church's estate, then allocated these to middle-small nobility. Church resolutely fight this for themselves benefit. 3. The affect of external strength. Byzantium astricted the development of polities and religion of Russ. The alliance of church and state strived for autonomy of church of Russ. Mongolia-ruling have influenced the relation between church and state, etc. |
