A Outlook On Three-symbol's Variation And Sublimation Of Song Translation

A song is an organic whole consisting of music symbols, language symbols andpunctuation marks, hence its translation concerns not only pure language; it is typicalinter-symbol transformation. This dissertation tries to suggest a theory of three-symbol'svariation and sublimation, which takes semeiology as the object of song translationstudy and thus getting to know the essential nature of song translation—transformationof symbols' form, meaning and use.The first chapter differentiates different levels of song translation study from athree-symbol system point of view, and conducts a profound discuss about thephilosophy connotation of "variation" and "sublimation", suggesting that variationand sublimation are both the soul of song translation. In the second chapter, the Chinesetranslation of Russian songs is taken as example to discuss the method system of the fulltranslation of songs. Seven methods are summarized from many translation examples:corresponding translation, additional translation, lessened translation, conversionaltranslation, replaced translation, split translation, and combine translation. Theconnotation, principle, and practice of these seven methods are analyzed anddemonstrated. The third chapter discusses the method system of the variation translationof songs, and also, seven methods are summarized from actual translation examples:additional translation, lessened translation, adaptation translation, abridging translation,pictographic translation, narrative translation, and imitative translation. The connotation,principle, and practice of these seven methods are also analyzed and demonstrated. Inthe fourth chapter, relevant theories of semeiology, poetry study, linguistics, culturology,and esthetics are taken in to consideration to demonstrate theoretically differentstrategies of song translation, providing a multi-aspect theoretical basis for theconstruction of the method system of Chinese translation of Russian songs.
