Study On Poetry And Painting Of The Four Masters Of Yuan Dynasty

By studying the poetry and painting of the four masters of Yuan dynasty, we can more fully understanding them, and specifically explore the relationship of Chinese poetry and painting by comparative studying their poetry and painting. This paper tries to conclude the viewpoints from the material when anglicizing their poetry and painting. There are two methods used in this paper, firstly, it bases on the works; secondly, it combines the relevant materials in the works about painting and calligraphy. The first chapter analyzes the development of poetry and painting in the historical and cultural background of the Yuan Dynasty. After discussing the change of the four masters of Yuan dynasty, there are two steps in the second chapter, firstly, it describes the works of poetry and Supplements the lost poems for the four masters, Secondly, it makes the Painting and Recording table for the four masters to mark the relevant records in the works about painting and calligraphy. The third chapter analyzes the hermit topic of the four masters' painting, and discuss that they hermitaged by painting to express the hermit feelings. The fourth chapter makes the four masters to be understood more comprehensively by analyzing the emotion and thought of their poetry. The fifth chapter discusses the integration and antagonist between the painting and poetry of the four masters by comparative. The four masters expressed feelings through painting and poetry, poetic image is Interlinked with painting image, and the style of poetry is similar to the painting's. Writing poems on the painting makes them complemented with each other, However painting and poetry sometimes is conflicted with each other. Take Ni'Zan for example, the style of his poetry is Xiuxi, but his painting style is Jianyi;His poetry follows the Confucian doctrine, but he painted in order to self-entertainment. And the poetry'content is more broad than the painting, and the achievement of their painting and poetry is unbalanced. There are three reasons for that, firstly, painting is different form the poetry. Secondly, the poetry and painting are in different stages of their history. Thirdly, although the painting and poetry restored ancient ways, the results were different.
