He made a large number of historical books and academic papers. Green's histoiography is mainly on the general population which is very different with other historians who studies of traditional political history and military history.China currently only have two kinds of translations about his masterpiece A Short History of English People in the late Qing dynasty. China's historians have no deep and systematic research about him. This dissertation puts this question in historiography to focus thinking on the character of A Short History of English People. I try to explore and analysis ideas and features of Green's history and deepen the research of the British historiography the 19th-century. Each chapter will now be summarized as follows:The first chapter mainly to study Green's family background, educational attainment, the clerical life and the initial activities of historiography in his career, through the analysis of these background effects of the formation of their identity and unique historical ideas.The second chapter is of his major masterpiece A Short History of English People It is the Greene's masterpiece in which fully reflected his historical ideas and his unique historical method. Green initially planned to write a voluminous history of the Archbishop of Canterbury, but because of the economic, physical and other reasons to abandon this plan; Social changes in United Kingdom and Western Europe during this period and Green's travels in various countries made his historical views change. This chapter will research the Romaritical characteristics of this book.The third chapter is on the thinking of Green's histoy and historiography in A Short History of English People. The "people"is the core vocabulary in this book. This chapter aims to analysis the meanins of the "people". The fourth chapter treats the relationship between Green's political thought and historical ideas, the characteristics of New Historiography in A Short History of English People and Green's religious views in order to further summarized his historical ideas in Short History.The fifth chapter discusses Green's attitude to the kings and barons in A Short History of English People. In the end,I will introduce Green's final historical works to overall resarech his historical thinking.The conclusion part reviews characters of Green's A Short History of English People,pointing out that Green's historical research was different to the Oxford School or the Whiggish Historiography.Green's concept of People in fact refers to the National.A Short History of English People play an important role of the specialization and popularization of the English historiography.
