BackgroundPrimary dysmenorrhea is the common gynaecopathia which influences females'health and life quality seriously. The occurring rate is up to92%in women with15to20years old. The treatment of acupunture in primary dysmenorrheal has obvious effects. However, there are still not the standard combined accupoints in primary dysmenorrheal regimen. This study researches the effect and safety of the acupuncture regimen in primary dysmenorrhea with the type of qi stagnation and blood stasis by the primary clinical trial. ObjectiveTo evaluate the effects of the acupuncture method mainly using " Four Gates" acupoints in primary dysmenorrhea with the type of Qi stagnation and blood stasis.MethodsSeventy-six patients who were primary dysmenorrhea with type of Qi stagnation and blood stasis involved in this clinical trial. And patients were randomly divided into two groups, the treatment group accepted acupuncture mainly using "Four Gates" acupoints and control group accepted placebo acupuncture. Each group was treated7-10days before the menstrual period begins; each patient was treated once a day until the menstrual period stoped. Three menstrual periods were defined as a course in this study. After the treatment, every patient was followed up and evaluated for three months. Evaluation included the integral of main dysmenorrheal symptoms, VAS, the seven Chinese medical symptoms, and the signs before and after treatments. The short-term and long-term curative effect was also observed. All measurements were analyzed by t-test, and chi-square.Results and Discussions Both groups, the acupuncture method mainly using " Four Gates" acupoints and placebo acupuncture, showed remarkable relief pain in primary dymenorrhea with the type of Qi stagnation and blood stasis, as well as low relapse rates. In clinical treatment efficacy, treatment group was better than the control group, the two groups had significant difference,(P<0.01). After measurements, the integral of main dysmenorrheal symptoms, VAS, and the seven Chinese Medical symptoms, were of little difference.(p>0.01) It displayed that the short-term and long-term curative effects of the acupuncture method mainly using " Four Gates" acupoints resembled those of placebo acupuncture in primary dysmenorrhea treatments. Besides, the cure rates of acupuncture in primary dysmenorrhea with different grades were distinct. Both acupuncture methods had positive effects in the mild and moderate primary dysmenorrhea. The final finding is that method mainly using "Four Gates" acupoints and acupuncture could improve the physiological constitution of Qi stagnation and blood stasis. Concluslons:Comparing with the placebo acupuncture, the acupuncture method mainly using " Four Gates" acupoints not only reliefs the pain, but also meets the treatment concept of the modern society that is simple, safe, non-toxic side effects. In popular, this could be an acceptable way in treatment of primary dysmenorrhea.
