Under the background of “Entrepreneurship and Innovationâ€, hi-tech enterprises in China are facing fierce competition and huge pressure to survive. How hi-tech enterprises can achieve sustainable development under increasing competitive market has been a topic of mutual interest between academy and government. In the context of transition economies, China’s economic system is transforming from planned economy to market economy gradually. The unique market environment and institution policy provide opportunity for hi-tech enterprises as well as challenge. Hi-tech enterprises aggregate in clusters in order to obtain necessary knowledge, technology, opportunity and resource, and do corporate entrepreneurship based on the former enterprise. On this basis, the paper aims at analyzing hi-tech enterprises’ corporate entrepreneurship, mechanism of agglomeration, and the intermediation between corporate entrepreneurship and performance under the context of transition economies. The paper attempt to answer the following questions:(1) how can hi-tech enterprises promote performance through corporate entrepreneurship;(2) the influence of different dimensions of corporate entrepreneurship on agglomeration;(3) different type of agglomeration’s influence on performance and(4) the intermediation of agglomeration between corporate entrepreneurship and performance.According to Timmons’ s entrepreneurship model, opportunity, resource and entrepreneur team affect corporate entrepreneurship. And theory of strategic entrepreneurship points out that corporate entrepreneurship is a type of entrepreneurship based on strategy. This research references to viewpoint of Zahra and Colvin, measure corporate entrepreneurship from three aspect—innovation, venture capital investment and strategic renewal. In addition, the research discusses the driving force of agglomeration from knowledge, opportunity and resource. Knowledge-driven agglomeration is that hi-tech enterprise hi-tech industrial cluster in order to acquire knowledge, including identifying, sharing and integration. Opportunity-driven agglomeration is that hi-tech enterprise hi-tech industrial cluster in order to acquire opportunity, including identifying, sharing and integration. Resource-driven agglomeration is that hi-tech enterprise hi-tech industrial cluster in order to acquire resource, including identifying, sharing and integration.Subsequently, in order to define and measure research variable in this paper, we distribute survey questionnaires to hi-tech enterprise in three provinces in the northeast of China, interview some of them, and receive 282 validated questionnaires. The research take advantage of SPSS 20.0 to analyze data collected from questionnaires. We use factor analysis, descriptive statistical analysis and linear regression analysis to test hypotheses and come to the conclusion.Empirical research revealed that the theoretical model we build in the paper support hypotheses. The result shows that(1) corporate entrepreneurship has positive impact on hi-tech performance;(2) corporate entrepreneurship has positive impact on different types of agglomeration;(3) different types of agglomeration have positive impact on hi-tech performance;(4) knowledge-driven agglomeration and opportunity-driven agglomeration has partial intermediary effect on relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and performance; and(5) resource-driven agglomeration has complete mediation effect on relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and performance. The paper aims at revealing how corporate entrepreneurship promotes hi-tech performance. The research bases on current theory and have some innovation points:(1) This paper analysis the definition of agglomeration, classify agglomeration in three types: knowledge-driven agglomeration, opportunity-driven agglomeration and resource-driven agglomeration, and developed the measurement of these three types of agglomeration on account of hi-tech enterprise in three provinces in northern east of China.Agglomeration is a particular behavior that can promote hi-tech performance. However, current research on agglomeration is from the angle of cluster, few is from the angle of enterprise itself. Development of scale on types of agglomeration fills out the shortcomings of research on agglomeration, reveals the mechanism of agglomeration affecting on hi-tech performance and analyzes influence of different types of agglomeration on hi-tech performance. The paper lays foundation for future research on agglomeration.(2) The research object is hi-tech enterprise in three provinces in northern east of China, and combines with the particularity of economic development in northeast China, analyzes the definition and dimensions of corporate entrepreneurship, and discusses influence of corporate entrepreneurship on different types of agglomeration. The result helps make up for shortcomings on theoretical and empirical research on the existing research on agglomeration, and promote research on corporate entrepreneurship. The concept of contextualized research can also help in the future study, scholars can compare research on different regions in the field of corporate entrepreneurship and agglomeration.(3) The paper bases on the theoretical logic of “corporate entrepreneurship— agglomeration--performanceâ€, take hi-tech enterprise as research object, in order to reveal the intermediary effect of agglomeration. The paper includes six chapters:In the first chapter, we introduce background, significance, method and structure. The second chapter introduces theoretical basis and research literature on corporate entrepreneurship, agglomeration and performance. The third chapter introduces theoretical framework and research design, including dimensions of variables, relationship between variables and the design of questionnaire. The forth chapter introduces method and hypothesis. The fifth chapter is data analysis and discussion, including sample characteristic, using SPSS 20.0 to do descriptive statistical analysis, factor analysis, linear regression analysis in order to test hypothesis, and discuss results from empirical research. In the sixth chapter, we discuss the result and enlightenment. The last chapter introduces conclusion and expectation. |
