| China’s economic growth pattern has become an important national policy. With the rapid economic development, the environment is deteriorating, the resources are facing serious shortage, the population size is experiencing rapid growth, the contradiction of population, resource, environment and economy become more prominent. Under the principle of "intergenerational equity", economic development, sustainable development has become an inevitable choice. From the regional perspective, it is necessary to study the regional comprehensive carrying capacity based on the carrying capacity theory, make policies and measures. There are not much carrying capacity study, let alone the domestic systematic comprehensive carrying capacity study for the region. Therefore, the regional comprehensive carrying capacity theories and methods based on the systematic research have been imminent.In this study, on the basis of experts and scholars at home and abroad, use the regional economics, development economics, quantitative economics, economic geography, and other disciplinary theories and methods integrated, it developed the concept, preliminary, the regional system and operation mode of the basic theory of the comprehensive carrying capacity from the point of view of scientific development. On the basis of the perspective and analysis of regional carrying capacity system and its interaction of internal subsystems, it discussed the regional comprehensive carrying capacity systems and components of the mechanism deeply, and established a regional comprehensive carrying capacity index system with weights, select the western region for the study of regional carrying capacity estimates, and study the collaboration of the internal elements of regional carrying capacity and the spatial structure of space-time analysis. The thesis is divided into eight chapters, the main contents as follows:First, define the concept of comprehensive regional carrying capacity and build the basic theoretical framework. Combed the bearing capacity of the development process on the basis of the theory of sustainable development, combined with the perspective of the modern scientific theory, it defined the regional comprehensive carrying capacity, build the theoretical framework of the regional comprehensive carrying capacity. Including:the concept of regional comprehensive carrying capacity, characteristics, classification and research purposes, connotation, internal factors coupling mechanism, the system dynamic mechanism and model. It had built the theoretical basis to build the regional comprehensive carrying capacity evaluation index system, establish the regional comprehensive carrying capacity evaluation model and to analyze the regional comprehensive carrying capacity of the internal structure, operation mechanism, and improve the regional carrying capacity policy.The second is to build a comprehensive regional carrying capacity evaluation indicator system, according to a systematic, qualitative and quantitative, dynamic and stable principle and the feasibility and operability of reciprocity, it takes the literature search method to build the evaluation layer, the target layer,11 categories of the three levels of criteria layer 47 indicators constitute a comprehensive regional carrying capacity index system. It eventually established a regional comprehensive carrying capacity indicator system, reflect the impact region comprehensive carrying capacity of the main factors more comprehensively. Weighting method by the AHP method and the mean square error method to determine the weight of indicators to construct regional comprehensive carrying capacity model and regional carrying capacity index value of regional carrying capacity for empirical analysis.The third is to select two points in time of the 12 provinces of the western region in 2006 and 2010 as a research object, calculate the regional comprehensive carrying capacity of the typical regional indicator value, and analyzed them. The results showed that the overall carrying capacity of the western region is in the middle and below level. However,12 provinces vary greatly. Inner Mongolia, Guangxi, Tibet, Yunnan, Gansu, Qinghai six provinces of regional carrying capacity index are between 0.2-0.4 in the low load levels. The six provinces of Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Xinjiang regional carrying capacity index are between 0.4-0.6 in the medium load levels. As for the time trend, compared with 2006, Chongqing, Gansu region carrying capacity index declined slightly in2010, but the gap is not huge, Sichuan, Ningxia, Qinghai, Tibet, Xinjiang RCCI values was more evident, Sichuan Province declines the most obviously.Fourth, it analysis the regional comprehensive carrying capacity from internal, external two angles deeply. Learn from the coupling and collaboration concept it bulid the resource environment and population and economy coupled collaborative theoretical models, and regional carrying capacity of the western region for collaborative analysis, results showed that the 12 provinces of the western region in 2006,2010 resource environmental system and the population the degree of coupling of the economic system, the coordination degree is basically in the low-level stage. The introduction of the theory of spatial economics, the focus from the space of global self-relevant and local spatial autocorrelation study the regional comprehensive carrying capacity of the spatial differences. It uses the Spatial Economics software Geoda0.9.5i to analysis and it showed that, according to the 2006 and 2010 comprehensive carrying capacity value of the 12 provinces in areas of the western region,it divided into the three types of areas covered by the provinces, there are some changes. Sichuan Province dropped by the first region to region, Gansu Province dropped by the second region to the third region, Guizhou Province was promoted to the first region by the second region, Inner Mongolia increased by the third class districts as The second region. Moran scatter plot of the calculation results show that the region of Qinghai from the LH type into the LL type area, Yunnan from the LL type region into the HL type area, Guangxi HH type of zone change from HL type area.Fifth, according to the evaluation results of the regional comprehensive carrying capacity, it showed the basic approach with key measures to improve the regional comprehensive carrying capacity, and did the summary and outlook of regional comprehensive carrying capacity.Theoretical results of this study, defined the concept of regional comprehensive carrying capacity, connotation, characteristics and dynamic evolution of the carrying capacity and make the theory rise to a new level, and achieve the close links between regional economic and the sustainable development of resources, for sustainable development theory applied to this important regional carrier to provide the necessary theoretical foundation and the means of achieving. Regional comprehensive carrying capacity as a more complete evaluation of sustainable development tools, the study has important theoretical significance and practical significance.
