For a long time, in China, the low-level of peasants’ organization and the limited ability of resisting market risks have had direct impact on the agricultural efficiency and farmer’s income level, which, at last, set back the realization of agricultural industrialization and modernization. After entering the WTO, the competitive pressure from the international market has been increasing. Therefore, how to improve the level of peasants’ organization and enhance the farmers’ market competitiveness become the current key problems needed to resolve. Theory and practice show that the core content of peasants’ organization is to organize small-scale farmers, help them enter the market and increase their economic income. Meanwhile, as a special enterprise form, farmers’ cooperative is regarded as the ideal way to improve the level of peasants’ organization. However, the performance of farmers’ cooperatives is unclear both in theory and practice. If assume that farmer specialized cooperative is the external manifestation of peasants’ organization, it is feasible to verify the performance of farmers’ cooperatives through the level of peasants’ organization. So based on the perspective of peasants’ organization, this dissertation develops the research on the performance of cooperatives. On the basis of related theories of peasants’ organization and cooperatives, through analyzing previous studies, learning experience from foreign farmer specialized cooperatives and considering the current situation of domestic farmers’ cooperatives, this dissertation proposes following research issues:1. To establish an index system for measuring the level of peasants’ organization. This dissertation employs Principal Component Analysis(PCA) to evaluate the level of peasants’ organization. On the basis of agricultural production process, this paper defines peasants’ organization as pre-production, in production, post-production and product distribution. In addition, according to agricultural production process, the index of organization has been divided into four parts: the organization of pre-production base, in-production service, post-production operation and agricultural products distribution. On this basis, the paper uses actual research data to measure the farmers’ evaluation of the level of organizations they have participated and then figures out the degree and existing flaws of peasants’ organization development.2. To establish an index system for assessing the performance of farmers’ cooperatives, and use factors analysis method to do the comprehensive assessment. The paper suggests a formation of performance evaluation system by using related assessments of business performance for reference and selecting targets through economic, social and environmental factors. It also adopts factors analysis method to do the thorough research on the performance of cooperatives and main influences of the comprehensive performance.3. Correlation analysis on the level of peasants’ organization and the performance of specialized cooperatives. Through analyzing peasants’ organization and performance of specialized cooperatives and using multiple regression method, this paper explores the alterable relation between the level of peasants’ organization and the performance of farmers’ cooperatives, verifies positive relativity between the two and identifies the significant correlative index.According to the above empirical analysis, the conclusions are as follows:1. Among indexes that influence the level of peasants’ organization, agricultural product safety testing, agricultural product processing, agricultural product sorting and grading, agricultural material purchasing, agricultural product sale price, and steady market are all of greater significance.2. It is reasonable to evaluate the performance of farmers’ cooperatives from aspects as membership benefits, the growth potential of cooperatives, community benefits and social influence. For the cooperatives that is in its initial development stage, performance and factors ranking table indicate that membership benefits> the growth potential of cooperatives> community benefits >social influence. Therefore, present cooperatives should lay emphasis on improving membership benefits and the growth potential of cooperatives. At the same time, the other two indications cannot be ignored.3. Significant positive relativity exists between the level of peasants’ organization and the performance of cooperatives. In addition to those important indicators including agricultural product safety testing, agricultural product processing, agricultural product sorting and grading, agricultural material purchasing, agricultural product sale price, and steady market, production technology training for farmers, financial assistance and agricultural infrastructure also promote the performance of cooperatives. On the basis of results as well as the current situation of farmers’ cooperatives, the dissertation proposes the following suggestions.1. To boost the implementation of cooperatives union; to expand the production and management scale of cooperatives; to improve its financing capacity, and to compete for greater initiative in market transactions.2. To commit to brand construction of farmers’ cooperatives, advertise the agricultural product energetically, enhance the brand awareness of agricultural products, and strengthen the market competitiveness of products.3. To expand the marketing channel of farmers’ cooperatives, vigorously promote the joint of cooperatives, colleges, communities, governments and supermarkets etc. which is prominently helpful for reducing costs and increase benefits.4. To strengthen cooperatives’ ability of science and technology service. Besides providing technical guidance for farmers, cooperatives should stress their work on further processing and new breeding of agricultural product. Therefore, the agricultural product added value can be increased and farmers will enjoy the incremental benefit by participating in the cooperatives.
