Complex product is a product with the feature of complicated system, complicated research process and complicated management, served as the key equipment of the development for national strategy, like aerospace vehicle and automobile etc. Virtual prototyping(VP) of complex product is computer simulation model, which integrates different discipline field knowledge of product life cycle and replaces physical prototyping. Onlyconstruct VP of complex product with good platform independent and conventionality can design product much better and faster and deal with the fierce market competition. Existing modeling method mainly aim at model standardization definition, data association between models and semantic relation are all relax, which difficult to achieve a higher level abstraction of semantic expression can’t directly extract discipline model for engineering application. Therefore, this paper explores the issues on unified modeling method for VP of complex product begin with unified modeling requirement and modeling process, which aims to offer feasible and effective solution on the problem of VP for complex product, a typical representative of VP for automobile automatic transmission(AT). The main research content and achievements are as follows.1. Engineering system conceptual model of VP for complex product is researched and defined, all dimensions of model and the relationship between dimensions are analysised, then unified modeling method architecture of VP for complex product is proposed. Pertinently multi-dimensional research is conducted on basic concept, technical frame, master model and discipline model, which is related to unified modeling method, on this basis, the definition, constitution and formal representation of master model are analysised, in addition, unified modeling method is analyzed and verified in discipline model constitute, construct process, extract method and CAD/CAE information linkage aspects about discipline model, then basic theories about unified model expression, construction method and process description of VP for complex product are established with multi-stage, multi-discipline, multi-field and multi-level of life cycle.2. In order to construct master model of VP for complex product, this paper, first analyzes the significance and process of unified modeling, unified modeling method of VP for complex product on the basis of the idea of meta-modelling is proposed, and conducts in-depth study for the aspects of meta-modeling method, meta-modeling hierarchy, object-oriented method, the STEP standard and unified model based on metadata. On this basis, unified modeling with design meta-model of VP for complex product is analyzed and formal expressed, thereby, implementation basis of method is supported for master model construction and expression.3. In order to implement master model expression effectively with design meta-model of VP for complex product, in this paper, the definition and structure about master model is researched, then proposes master model which is expressed by metadata of process, product, resource and knowledge, thereby finishes the description of master model.4. It is the key for validation and application of model to construct discipline model, which is belong to the stage in the life cycle of VP for complex product. At first, discipline modeling process, mapping method are researched, then discipline meta-model extracting from master model based method of meta-model is proposed, and instantiated to discipline model. On this basis, a MBD based method, mix-modeling technology that combine parametric modeling with feature modeling, automatic dividing grid technology and algorithm are researched. Thereby CAD/CAE integrated modeling of discipline model is achieved, which provided technology base for engineering analysis.5. For the purpose ofconstruct unified modeling of VP for complex product, which as an example of VP about automobile automatic transmission, in this paper, unified modeling design system of transmission is built, then it analyzes working process and modeling process of AT, it constructs master model and discipline model with design meta-model of VP for AT, thereby the engineering analysis of discipline model is accomplished.
