Stereo technology has very broad application prospects. It can be used in scientific research, military, education, industrial, medical, sports, and many other fields. This technology has become national hottest issues in national and social development strategies. Crosstalk has great influence on the quality of stereo display. It is one of the important causes of stereoscopic viewing discomfort.In this paper, we carries out research on viewing zone distribution of multi-view parallax barrier autostereoscopic display, the causes of crosstalk, and crosstalk reduction technology. The research contents and major contributions are listed in the below:Firstly, the viewing zone distribution of multi-view parallax barrier autostereoscopic display has been studied. The formulation of a mathematical model of viewing zone was established using geometricalopticstheoryand can be used to calculate the right position and range for viewing stereo image, and simulation of the crosstalk was also employed. The simulations show that the viewing zone of each view was discontinuous and how the crosstalk was distributed. Using this model, the technical parameters of autostereoscopic display can be calibrated properly. It is also useful to reducethe difficulty ofthe excogitation of parallax barrier and makeit more efficiently and accurately.Secondly,the causes of crosstalk based on multiview autostereoscopic display is analyzed. Based on its conclusion,the relation between sweet spots and parallax barrier parameters is deduced. Then, the crosstalk respectively in vertical and horizontal directions to the flat-panel displays were analyzed and calculated to establish the model of crosstalk.Through the simulation analysis of light intensity distribution in front of screen, the accuracy of the crosstalk model was further validated. The crosstalk model will establishes a simulation basic platform for the optimum design and concrete realization of autostereoscopic display system.Furthermore, by the crosstalk modelwe study the relationship between the tilt angle of barrier,crosstalk and viewing zone based on autostereoscpoic displays using slanted parallax barrier. We found the variation condition of the viewing zone with increasing slanted angle by simulating the light intensity distribution in both vertical and horizontal directions.To the simulation phenomenon, this paper gives some reasonable theoretical explanations. Finally, the value ranges and the theoretic upper bound of tilt angle was analyzed from the perspectives of crosstalk.Finally, we design a new baffle structureto reduce the crosstalk by using the crosstalk simulation model proposed before. The baffle structure expands the range of viewing zone without crosstalk and improves the problem of limited viewing positions. The simulation experiments were designedtoconfirm its validity of extending viewing zone without crosstalk.
