Purpose:Vertigo, usually recognized as dizziness and imbalance, is a common clinicalsymptom. It is a modern common disease which often appears in different agegroups-young, middle-aged, or older persons. The incidence rate is increasing everyyear. Some people suddenly get it repeatably, which hinder their life quality andnormal work. The serious ones might develop faint or stroke which sometimesendanger life. As a common symptom, it is also recognized as those diseases inwestern medicine, such as peripheral vertigo, central vertigo, Meniere's disease, cervical vertigo, vertebro-basilar artery insufficiency vertigo, hypertension, cerebralarteriosclerotic vertigo, anaemia and posttraumatic vertigo etc., Since vertigohappens frequently in many clinical cases, and its cause also diverse complexly, doctors are starting paying more attention to this sickness.Lots of vertigo elaborations were written in previous dynasties, most have thecomprehensive judgment. Previous medical books also have outstanding records. It would be worthy for us to study those ancient medical prescription rules usingmodern understanding. Traditional Chinese medicine embraces and takes diagnosisand treatment as a whole, has the certain combining superiority. Modern clinicalresearches also prove that using Chinese medicine to treat vertigo syndrome resultinggood curative effect, thus eventually receiving pervasive attention. Therefore, notonly using ancient treatments, but also modern and scientific researches aresignificant important topics. On the other hand, although the previous medical discussion materials wereextremely rich, those are also apparently disorganized. There is a need to have abreakthrough using current literature research and classification analysis. The goal ofthis dissertation is attempt to discover vertigo related ancient literatures and medicaldisserts through modern and contemporary medical clinical treatment, to discoverwhether modern prospective is similar to the ancient disserts. This dissertation is divided into three portions:1.The historical research on TCM doctors to diagnosis and treat vertigo, chronologically from the Dynasties: pre-Qin, Han, Tsin, Tang, Sung, Yuan, Ming toChing Dynasty, studying vertically to know it's derivation and evolution.2. Study the TCM literature concerning vertigo with the point of emphasis on the nearmodern 100 years. Categorizing horizontally the cause, syndrome, medication andtreatment.3. Construct a systematical database for clinical use, teaching and scientific researchin order to realize mutual share of the resourses. Methods: Basic research-including information acquisition, material assembly andclinical investigation:1. information acquisitionCarrying on the research in the Taiwan libraries at early stage while consideringthe difficulty in acquiring ancient Chinese medicinal books and disserts, some editsfrom recent persons therefore also collected. Mutual proofing-reading was used tocompare most duplicates. The academic thought as well as clinical experience, which governs vertigo casesof those modern renowned Chinese medical experts in the off-prints were carefullyanalyzed and reorganized. The original medical ancient literatures were alsodeliberately analyzed. Additional references were from several trips to Guangzhouand bought from Guang Yuang tech-bookstore, Bai Yun book-city etc., In Taiwan, the resource were from Ming Shah Tang, Wun Jin Tang, Qiu Shui Tang publishinghouses and Taiwan's national and Taipei city libraries.2. material assembly and reorganization:Material origin question: It's important for research graduate students to resolveissues and complete study based on original literatures which are associated withvertigo, wind, phlegm, deficiency, blood stasis and liver, spleen, kidney related topics.Selectively chose the representative ancient and near-modern medical disserts tocarry on the research analysis. Systematically governed the vertigo symptoms withrelevance conducts, abstracting with wind, phlegm, deficiency, blood stasis, liver, spleen and kidney related, categorizing into medical entities. Combinination withHunan Hong Yu science and technology publish company's" Encyclopaedia ofTraditional Chinese medicine " CD did save a lot of time.Since Taiwan national library has long-term contract with CNKI(China NationalKnowledge Infrastructure), through national library 6th floor sinology research centerreference room, one could use the network to enter China Journal Full-textDatabase(CJFD), and download modern core periodical and recent 20 year medicinediagnosis stagger dissertations. Reorganized those research results into wind, phlegm, deficiency, blood stasis and liver, spleen, kidney classification accordingly,well-form into a structure content in this thesis.3. Clinical invesgationClinical invesgation was carried out by Dr. Xu Guo Min, Buji People's hospital,Shenzhen city with my idea and correlated literature supports. 300 cases wereperformed by Dr. Xu Guo Min to investigate the relationship between vertigo andwind, phlegm, deficiency, blood stasis.Results:1. Vertigo cases governing Chinese medicine correlated ancient book literaturefindings:Using literature reorganization research techniques to choose representativedisserts, carrying on the analysis and having systematically study the etiologicalanalysis and pathogenesis to form a principle prescription which governs the vertigocases were conducting. The analysis research then abstracted with wind, phlegm, deficiency, blood stasis and liver, spleen, kidney correlation vertigo medical discussesinto the medical dissert essence which might provide more reference to vertigo clinicaldiagnosis in the future.Another key in this dissertation is to summarize ancient and near-modern times, give classification and categories according to wind, phlegm, deficiency, blood stasisand liver, spleen, the kidney relevance of, put in each prescription to investigate infront of our medical disserts. Then, expose these rich theory experience, academicthoughts and important elaborations to modern society. The precious model andguiding sense might provide future researcher with remedial treatment result.2. Near modern literature research key:Through retrieval China Journal Full-text Database (CJFD), gathering recent 20 yearscore periodical to understand related vertigo Chinese medicine diagnosis theory, treatment method, and medicine used and so on, using analysis appraisal and conciseChinese medicine vertigo cases governed. Since 1996, the Chinese periodical-net hadover 3400 practicing medicine related vertigo dissertations. Every year, manyvertigo papers are added-such as 234 in 1996, 273 in 1997, 251 in 1998, 258 in 1999,354 in 2000, 352 in 2001, 328 in 2002, 410 in 2003, 355 in 2004, 427 in 2005, 240 in2006. The number is not small.According to the contents of collected vertigo dissertations, classified into wind, phlegm, deficiency, blood stasis, fire and liver, spleen, kidney related. Then usingwestern illness categories and modern understanding to investigate vertigo, researchand provide special treatment with prescription cuts from proven traditional Chinesemedicine. During the research process, I have meditated that the vertigo cases is notonly an important topic in ancient times, but also a hot spot for modern medicinewhich might requires more scientific research in the future. 3. Compiled collected ancient literatures into compact disc, the content is onlyconcentrated on vertigo cases, and designed only for internal reference. Therefore, there is no copyright issue. There are four major portions:a. Chinese traditional medicine Publishing house, 2000, Zhang Wenkang, "ChineseHundred Years Hundred renowned TCM practician's Clinical Collection", and 44related authors.b. Guizhou science and technology publishing house, 1999, Chu DehWen, "ChineseRenowned Senior TCM experts' Academic Experience Collection, Vol. 1-5", and30 related authors.c. Chinese traditional medicine Publishing house, 1999, Shah Shu Chan and ChenZihua, "Ancient and modern doctors clinical proves, Headache & vertigo volume",with 12 ancient and 23 modern related authors.d. The Taiwan Intellectual Property Bureau network, ancient vertigo medical, 106articles.Conclusion:1. Regarding to wind, phlegm, deficiency, blood stasis and liver, spleen, kidney relatedvertigo medical disserts and case reports essence: The dissertation uses two pathsconfronting with modern search while concerning to traditional medical disserts.Ancient medicine, which governs the elaboration to many vertigo cases, sometimeslack of systematic research. Collecting ancient medical discussions and discoveringvertigo cases, carefully find-out key-points, abstract from vertigo, wind, phlegm, deficiency, blood stasis and liver, spleen, kidney related materials and so on. On theother hand, modern searching network and comparing current vertigo cases, withdraws pattern and gives the classification. Then, analyze how significance thesemedical disserts to modern clinical cases. Comparing ancient times to the nearmodern medicine medical disserts according to wind, phlegm, deficiency, blood stasis, liver, spleen and kidney theory proposed, make classification and presenting incondensed form in front of modern clinical cases. These clinical diagnosis mightprovide clearer reference and theoretical foundation to future vertigo studies.2. Through reading previous medical disserts, it would be possible for clinical workersto widen vision and gain indirect experience to avoid mistake. Just as Mr. Liu Baoyi,in Qing dynasty, said "intent to find law and prescriptions beyond, to help treatingillness with life mechanism, making sure our understanding could be comparable tonear-bys". All previous dynasties left us many vertigo notes and case reports, theirmedical principle had been richly and broadly elaborated. With more exploration tooriginal experience, it would be unquestionably enhancing our diagnosis level. Manyprevious distinguished disserts have unique interpretation on vertigo, most werevaluable wholeheartedly discussed which can not be indiscreet. During dissertationwriting, with my sincere experience each kind of pathogenesis factor may alone causevertigo, may also concurrently be part of vertigo, but all related to body healthy indication. Wind, phlegm, deficiency and blood stasis might happen while bodyorganism spleen is weak or in hepato-renal insufficiency. We could often see theclinical multi-symptom situation through deficiency primarily, associatedconcurrently with wind, phlegm, deficiency and blood stasis. The richness andpractical knowledge of ancient medical records are worthy for us to study andresearch more deeply.3. The purpose of the third part of this dissertation was to investigate the correlationbetween vertigo and wind, phlegm, deficiency, blood stasis. According to theclassification of the syndrome, the resulting percentage were: Wind-yang upwarddisturbance 36%, phlegm turbid upward wrapping 32.3%, Qi and blood deficiency17%, liver and kidney yin deficiency 14.7%. The correlated viscera were liver, spleen and kidney. Total efficacy to treat vertigo for the ancient prescriptions likeBan-Xia-Bai-zhu-Tian-Ma-Tang were 92.3%. Through this dissertation search andthe writing process, after reading many vertigo and other illness related medicalmemoir, I had gained significant profit personally, and believed it would be ofextremely help to clinical diagnosing and provides treatment skills in the future. This is my biggest harvest.
