Objective: The variations of plasma lipid and apolipoprotein levels between individuals are due to environmental and hereditary influences. The environmental factors include mainly the dietary composition and lifestyle. Data from epidemiological and experimental studies indicated that fat consumption significantly affects plasma lipid levels, anyhow, studies from Western populations have considered that about 50 to 60% of the variability of plasma total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol are attributed to genetic factors. In this program, Yi-farmers, Yi-emigrants and Han people in Liangshan, Sichuan province, locating in the southwestern part of China were studied for the investigations of their plasma lipid profiles and the affecting factors involved including age, sex, body mass index, smoking, alcohol, physical activity and blood pressure in order to study the...
