In order to learn the epidemic status of HIV infection in paid blood donors, a large scale screening was carried out in Henan province in 2004. The epidemiological features of HIV/AIDS in Henan were significantly different from other provinces in China or other countries. Most of HIV positive cases among the paid blood donors were found in rural areas with a high "clustering" distribution in some villages with high prevalence rates of blood-related AIDS.
