Purpose: The objective of this study was to describe the clinical applicability of Cerec2 CAD/CAM methods and examine the performance of Cerec inlays/onlays, veneers and crowns in terms of clinical quality over a function period of two years.Material and methods: Of 181 Cerec restorations, 59 inlays and inlays, 69 veneer, 53 full crowns. The restorations were fabricated using the Cerec2 method and Vita MK II ceramic blocks. An adhesive technique and luting composite resin were used for seating the restorations. After every six months, the clinical performance of the restorations evaluated by two calibrated examiners using modified USPHS criteria for inlays/onlays/crowns and modified CDA/Ryge criteria for veneers. The milling time of each restoration and patient satisfaction with Cerec restorations were recorded. Results: According to Kalplan-meier analysis, the success rate of Cerec2 inlays and onlays was 93%, veneers 98% and crowns 100% after 2.5 years functional use. The reasons of failures were ceramic fracture (4 onlays) and debonding (1 veneer). The average milling time of inlays /onlays was 19 minutes, veneers 12 minutes and crowns 14 minutes. Conclusion: The Cerec method combines the advantages of bonding with a fast production technology for all ceramic inlays, onlays veneers and full crowns. The result is a unique treatment option allowing dentist to fabricate tooth-colored restorations made from high quality ceramic material in a single visit without temporarization. This is particularly true in light of the high patient satisfaction.
