With the great development of economy, the industry of construction has madeprogress rapidly in recent year. At the same time, people expect that the constructionproducts can meet their increasing individuation requirements. It is also a main reasonthat leads the building structure more and more complex. It is concretely representedas following parts: 1) the shape and the structure of architecture become much morecomplex; 2) the relationship between the structures to be built and the structures tohave been built become much more complex too, for the building density isincreasing. In face of this shift, the structure engineers can take few measures. Theycould just finish the structure design by using the simple analysis tools together withabstract thinking on the structure. In other words, the technology of structure designand the design environment can hardly meet the demand of the structure design. So, itis necessary to develop a new technology of structure design.The main goal of this thesis is to build the new technology of Computer AidEngineering, which named Structure Design Virtual Prototyping. In order to establishit, we use the idea of Meta-Modeling and the Object-Oriented Programming Method,and integrate several high technologies such as the feature-based modeling ofstructure, numerical simulation, visualization, and the virtual reality.The main work that has been completed in the paper is as following:(1) To set up the integrative system of structure virtual prototype's meta-modelinformation. The definition of the structure virtual prototype has been given at first.Base on that, we use the meta-modeling idea to analyze the virtual prototype. Theintegrative system of prototype's meta-model information has been established, whichis well-bedded and easy to be extended.(2) The abstract system of structure virtual prototyping named "3 rings 1 core"system has been built in the paper. The system is composed of interface circle,controlled circle, application circle and virtual prototype database. Combined with theknowledge of construction industry, the connotation of the structure virtual prototyping abstract system is well summarized. Circle mode can better incarnate thecore function of structure virtual prototyping abstract system.(3) The abstract system of structure virtual prototyping is built from different levels:structure level and member level. Using the virtul construction technology to describethe feature of dynamic construction process. Using the virtul test measure to analyzethe feature of the member.(4) Integrate and implement the system of structure design virtual prototyping. Thesystem composed of 3D feature-based modeling of the structure, virtual construction,virtual ramble, virtual test, structure analysis and visualization. In addition, in theprocess of 3D feature-based modeling of the structure, the module is divided into twological levels named geometry level and member level. Now it is proved that this ideais reasonable, and the module is easy to be maintained and extended.
