In response to the deterioration of global environment, the discipline of Landscape Architecture and its professional education combine more closely with ecology science than ever before. However, research of ecological education for this discipline has just been launched out, few of which concern the aspect of practice. By discussing a practical framework of ecological education for LA discipline, this dissertation aims to promote the practice of this new kind of professional education, and enhance the level of LA education in PRC to keep up with the prominent samples around the world as soon as possible.Issues discussed by the dissertation include:1. The ecology-oriented development of LA discipline and its professional education; the actions and challenges of ecological education for LA discipline, as well as its theoretical concept.2. The essential features of top LA programs and their ecological education practice around the world.3. The main problem of current LA education in PRC; the essential features of representative professional education samples in PRC, as well as their ecological education practice; the gap between the samples in PRC and around the world.4. The results and experiences of researches in correlative education fields that will be referred by ecological education for LA discipline.5. The current phase, objectives, innovative approaches, and practice framework of the development of professional education and ecological education for LA discipline in PRC.6. The feasibility and effect of the practice framework.All of the research work, which involve the historical analysis of LA profession, the theoretical deduction from correlative areas of education, the investigation of 12top LA programs from 6 universities in the world and 6 representative LA programs from 2 universities in PRC, the survey of 8 landscape planning and design firms registered in PRC, and a case study of studio teaching reform to introduce ecological approaches to landscape planning and design, lead to the important conclusions about:1. The development mechanism of LA discipline, as well as the development features of LA discipline in PRC.2. The definition, composition and development phases of ecological education for LA discipline.3. The relationship of ecological education and professional education for LA discipline.4. The features of LA professional education and ecological education practice representing advanced levels around the world currently.5. The problem and practice features of current professional education and ecological education for LA discipline in PRC, both of which lag behind the top programs around the world somewhat.6. The proposed developing pattern and strategies of professional education and ecological education for LA discipline in PRC, and basic principles for the construction of the practical LA ecological education framework in PRC.7. A feasible teaching mode for studios in LA ecological education.The innovative portions of this dissertation include:1. Elaborated the theoretical concept of ecological education for LA discipline. Although it has been accepted that ecological education is important for LA profession, little discussion focuses on what on earth ecological education for LA discipline is. After a historical analysis of the development of ecological education as well as LA profession and its education, this dissertation construct a theoretical framework of ecological education for LA discipline, which is made up of the definition, elements, development phases and features of this new kind of professional education. Further more, this theoretical framework is basically verified by the samples of studiedprograms both in PRC and the West.2. Laid a foundation for the practical research of ecological education for LA discipline.Considering the lack of research in the practical fields of ecological education for LA discipline, this dissertation operated kinds of investigation to collect the fundamental information of LA education at present, so as to help the further research objectively.3. Proposed a framework for practice of LA ecological education in PRC.To meet the demands of implementing the ecological education for LA discipline in PRC, this dissertation suggested a practical framework after a comparative research of current practice in PRC and the West, which is made up. of phase objectives, development patterns and strategies, as well as pilot courses, teaching content and methods. Undoubtedly, this framework will be a direct reference for LA ecological education practice in PRC.4. Suggested a teaching mode for studios in LA ecological education.Studio is the main kind of professional courses in LA education. Confronting the challenges of the practice of LA ecological education, this dissertation concluded the traditional teaching mode for studios in PRC, analyzed its shortages, and indicated a reformed one by experimental operation and effect evaluation.5. Discussed the amendment of some existing theories and methods of landscape ecological planning and design according to the status of PRC.To promote the application of existing theories and methods of ecological planning and design in LA professional practice in PRC, this dissertation put the basic theories and methods under the circumstance of PRC, analyzed their suitability, indicated those should be modified to meet the special request of social status in PRC, and studied the possible ways to modify.
