Cultural landscapes represent"the combined works of nature and of man"designated in Article 1 of the Convention Concerning of The Protection of The World Cultural and Natural Heritage, clarifying essential feature of area-based heritage preservation. The paper, while looking back theory and practices since 19 century of international heritage preservation, reviewing heritage preservation in our country since 1930, and looking back the experience and method of area-based heritage preservation in the United States of America, makes a deep research in generating and intension of the concept of cultural landscape and its usage in heritage preservation of our country, putting forward a theory of area-based cultural landscape preservation, establishing a preliminary classified system of area-based cultural landscape conservation areas of our country, and setting up preservation methods and tactics concerned.The paper points out, cultural landscapes preservation forms mainly from 2 shares which are the work of protective management and restoration of historical landscape and the work of ecological management and maintenance.
