This dissertation introduces the research and development of modeling and simulation of dredging process for cutter suction dredger, which serves for the making of the first 1750m3/h cutter suction dredger's dredging process training simulator (it is called as the 1750 dredging simulator for short) in China. This project is one part of Project of Study and Application of New Devices and Technologies in the 1750m3/h Cutter Suction Dredger (it is called as the 1750 dredger for short), which is a China State Ninth five-year key project and was developed by the joint efforts of Changjiang Waterway Bureau and Wuhan University of Technology. It can help the students whose major is dredging and the dredger operators getting acquainted with dredging process, so that they can be trained to get the best production under the different circumstances.This dissertation firstly proposes the state-of-art of modern simulation. Some typical dredging simulators aboard and the technology of making the simulator are given. Based on the information, the solution of development of the first dredging simulator in China is introduced. The next part is the models of the 1750 dredging simulator, which is the key technology in the 1750 dredging simulator. They include: 1. Model of the mixture forming in the cutter. This model studies the mixture forming process and simulates the specific gravity of the mixture in the pipeline under the different dredging conditions and work parameters, then refers the technical data in a real dredging project to make some simulation examples. In the end, based on this theory, some useful suggestions are given for efficient dredging. 2. Model of dredge pump and pipeline system. This paper designs the characteristic curves and system curves for the dredging materials of the water and all kind of mixtures, which base on the theory of hydraulic dredging and the experiment data of prototype dredger, then puts out the equations of computing the work point of dredge pump system and the model that can simulate the work condition of dredging pump such as the flow rate, vacuum and pressures. In the end, a simulation example is given. 3. Model of cutter driver system. Based on designing the models of cutter and DC motor, this paper introduces how to match the characteristic between cutter and DC motor, then analyzes the principle of speed regulator, relay control system and thyristor bridge in the cutter driver system and designs a simplified model. In the end, a small simulation program is provided to demonstrate how to work in cutter driver system model. 4. Model of hydraulic system. This part introduces a large electrical control hydraulic system in the 1750 dredger. The whole system is controlled by PLC and relays. Then analyzes both the source codes of PLC program and the principle of hydraulic system, and designs the simulation model of hydraulic system. At last a small simulation program is showed. Furthermore, this dissertation introduces the solution ofdevelopment of the 1750 dredging simulator, which includes the ideal of designing the hardware and software of the 1750 dredging simulator. The hardware includes simulation computer, computer network, I/O interface system and control panel, etc. The software includes real-time simulation software platform, simulation program, monitor system and visual system, etc. Based on analyzing the functions of the 1750 dredger, this paper compiles a set of operating regulations for the 1750 dredging simulator. Finally, a conclusion of this dissertation is given and some related issues and future work in this area are also addressed.
