ObjectiveTo investigate the attitudes and influencing factors among medical staff toward death and palliative care.MethodWe used death attitude profile-revised scale and A self-designed questionnaire to survey doctors and nurses attitudes toward death and palliative care from Geriatrics and ICU of Renji Hospital and Tangqiao Community Health Service Center.Statistics analysis was performed using T-test,one-way ANOVE and linear regression with SPSS20.0.Results158 valid questionnaires were collected, including 53 from Geriatrics,68 from ICU and 37 from Tangqiao Service Center. The mean score of negative attitude to death was 37.01 and the independent influential factor was positions(p=0.016).The mean score of positive attitude to death was 28.77 and the influencing factors were positions and religious belief. The mean score of attitude toward palliative care was35.37.There were significant differences between different positions, marital status, age, working time and departments(p<0.05),and the multivariate analysis showed the marital status was the indepent factor of the attitude to palliative care. However, the attitude of death had no significant influence on the attitude to palliative care.ConclusionThe negative attitude toward death among medical staff is still high, but it tends to neutral in terms of death acceptance. The nurses and the medical staff with religious belief hold a more positive attitude toward death, and married persons hold more positive attitude toward palliative care.Individual attitude to death dose not affect the attitude toward palliative care.
