A Study On The Relationship Between Sexual Health Literacy And Sex Education Of College Students In Hangzhou

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the status of ways to obtain sexual knowledge,the willingness and expense to participate in sex education and the compliance with sex education content of college students in Hangzhou,and to explore the correlation between these factors and sexual health literacy.Methods: 1899 college students from nine universities in Hangzhou were investigated by a questionnaire.The status of sexual health literacy and sex education and the relationship between these two aspects were explored using descriptive analysis and correlation analysis respectively.And the influence factors of sexual health literacy and sex education were explored by using stepwise multiple regression analysis.Results: 1.The reliability and validity of Scales of Sexual Health Knowledge,Sexual Attitude and Sex Related Behavior were all good with over 0.6 of Cronbach's alpha coefficient.2.59.98% of students' schools hadn't had sex education activities,73.93% of students had never participated in sex education activities.The average score of three dimensions of college students' sexual health literacy from high to low were sexual attitudes(47.80±12.51),sexual related behaviors(28.02±9.36)and sexual health knowledge(18.51±2.89).3.Sexual health literacy and sex education of college students had statistically significant differences in general demographic variables(all P values<0.05).The differences of sexual health literacy of college students in different development of sex education,willingness and behavioral expression of sex education participation,time and cost of sex education were statistically significant(all P values<0.05).4.Multiple linear stepwise regression analysis showed that grade,professional,monthly living expenses,number of monthly sex self-education activities,and the number of sex-related matters that were discussed with friends each month(all P values <0.05)were the common factors affecting each dimension of sexual health literacy.5.Sexual attitudes played a moderating role in the relationship between sexual health knowledge and sexual related behaviors,but they had no mediating effect.The dimensions of sexual health literacy and its relevance to sex education activities had some correlations.Conclusion: The status of sex education among college students in Hangzhou is poor,and the level of sexual health literacy among college students in Hangzhou is low.The dimensions of sexual health literacy and its relevance to sex education activities had some correlations.Sexual attitudes played a moderating role in the relationship between sexual health knowledge and sexual related behaviors,but they had no mediating effect.In the future,we should promote sex education,and increase the coverage and participation rate of sex education activities in college in order to improve the sexual health literacy and the sexual health of college students.
