Status Of The Health Literacy Level And Health Risk Behaviors Of Private Higher Vocational College Students In Shanghai,China

ObjectiveTo study status of health literacy level and health risk behaviors among students of private higher vocational college in Shanghai, and explore the influencing factors about health literacy level and unhealthy weight loss behavior, substance addiction, mental addiction behavior, suicidal ideation to provide the basis for making the intervening measures.MethodsStratified cluster sampling methods were applied to select3Shanghai private vocational school. All students in the selected classes were asked to attend the survey. A questionnaire prepared for the China CDC Adolescent HealthRisk Behavior Surveillanceguestionnaire_college students and Chinese Residents Health Literacy Questionnaire was employed on-site anonymous investigations. EpiData3.1data base software was used to input data, and SPSS20software for statistical analysis of the data.RresultsTotally there were1300students in the selected classes and1275students comleted the questionnaires. The effective responded rate was98.1%。Among the subjects, there were349male students and926female students, with age arrangement of18-25years ols. According to the survey,2.9%of students with good health literacy,56.7%of students with moderate health literacy and40.4%of students with poor health literacy. During the7days before the survey,17.9%of students ate sweets,26.1%of the students often did not drink milk,10.2%of students often did not eat breakfast, and8.6%of students often ate Western-style fast food,64.5%of students often watched TV,71.4%of the students were regular internet users,52.6%of students plaid video games for≥2hours a day,83.3%of the students did not take physical exercise,9.9%of students suffered Internet addiction. During the30days before the survey,13.6%of the students often drunk carbonated drinks,41.5%of students perceived themselves being overweight,8.6%of students thought that they were obesity, and12%of the students took overan unhealthy way to lose weight, 19.5%of students had smoked cigarettes,43.6%had drunk alcohol. During the12months before the survey,4.1%of students walk irregularities,8.1%of students went to unsafe places to swim,11.4%of students had been in a physical fight,5.4%of the students felt insecurity in the school and10.8%of students had insomnia,11.9%of the students had a sense of loneliness,14.8%of the students had depression,11.5%of students had attempted suicide,5.5%the students had developped the suicide plan, and5.4%of students attempted suicide,4.9%of students use sedatives without doctor’s guidance,17.5%of the students had ever had sexual intercourse,9.7%of the students had unsafe sex.19.8%of the students had more than five kinds of health risk behaviors. Health risk behaviors among the private vocational students are differences between genders, schools, and professional category. The boy had serious health risk behavior. The girl’s health literacy level is higher than that of male students. This situation influenced by social, family and psychological factors.ConclusionsThe present study showed that the students among the private vocational colleges had lower health literacy levels and higher prevalence of health risk behaviors. The education about mental health, health education and life skills should be carried out based on the different characteristics of these risk behaviors and lack of health literacy in order to improve the level of health literacy, and to prevent and control the occurrence of adolescent health risk behaviors.
