Soil is an important basis for material production activities in human society. It is also a kind of natural resources which difficult to regenerate and indispense. With the development of industrialization and mining activities, the pollution of soil environment in China has been aggravated. This paper takes lead-zinc mine in Shuikoushan of Hunan province as the research area.A total of 317 surface soil samples were tested.Geochemical survey was carried out in Shuikoushan area to analyse the statistical characteristics and spatial distribution characteristics of soil nutrient elements and heavy metal elements. The quality evaluation was carried out according to the land geochemical standard,as well as the ecological and geochemical evaluation of heavy metals. Finally, the correlation analysis of heavy metals around the mining area was conducted. This paper is expected to provide a basis for the control of heavy metal pollution in the region and the scientific development of mineral resources. The main conclusions are as follows:1.By nutrient geochemical evaluation, the content of N is relatively rich in the study area, mainly in grade one or two,and the content of P and K are low, mainly in grade three or four. The nutrient elements of the soil in the southern part of the study area are scarce, but the soil nutrient elements are abundant in the western region of the study area.In addition, the content of B,Mn,Se and Mo in the research area is rich, mainly in grade one or two.2.Through ecological risk assessment of the study area, the index of geoaccumulation shows that Zn,Cd,Pb and Hg are seriously polluting in the study area, especially the Cd.The potential ecological risk assessment for the study area shows that the pollution index of Cd is also serious. However, the pollution degree of Pb,Zn and Hg elements is very low, which is different from the land accumulation index method.Because of the different toxic factors of various heavy metal elements, the potential ecological hazards of Cd element is extremely high, and a large part of the region has reached the highest level of pollution, but the others are low.The local department should be cautious of the local Cd pollution.3.Due to the symbiosis of minerals, there is a strong positive correlation between heavy metals in Zn,Cd,Pb and Hg in Shuikoushan mining area. However, due to strong human activities, there is no significant correlation between oxides,pH,organic matter and heavy metal content.Through factor analysis, this paper declares that Cd,Pb,Zn,As,Cu,Hg source from the mining area, and Cr?Ni are derived from the soil parent material.
