Land is the essential resource and means of production for humans’ existence anddevelopment. With the development of economy and the increase of population, thepressure of different kinds of natural resources and natural environment appears to begrowing, including Land resources. How to harmonize various functions of land andhow to guarantees the social economy and environment development moderately arethe key problems to land ecological evaluation. As the important sub-discipline ofLand Ecology, land ecological evaluation plays an important role in Land Ecologydevelopment. It is the foundation of land ecological planning and design. With fastdevelopment of China’s economy, Land ecological problems have becomeincreasingly prominent. Implementing ecological rehabilitation project, ecologicalproducts enhancements, promoting governance of desertification and soil erosion, thearea of forest, lake and wetlands expanding, biodiversity protecting which is therequirement of the strategy “Promotion of ecological civilization” in the18th NationalCongress of the Communist Party of China. It is also the requirement of landecological civilization. The biodiversity of Yunnan province enjoyed an importantposition in the national and the world, but it rapidly become sparser recently, whichrequires instruction of planning and management by land ecological evaluation.Thestudy of land ecological evaluation in China gets the substantial development over along period, there are still some problems: first, the land ecological evaluation whichby the landscape spatial pattern method is just demonstrate a comparative studybetween different landscape spatial pattern indexes, it doesn’t make connection withdifferent landscape spatial pattern indexes and ecological processes, ecologicalfunctions. Then, few studies of land ecological evaluation are aimed at protectingbiodiversity. My study chooses the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey as our objective species for theprotecting biodiversity function of land ecological evaluation. We have taken the probabilities of monkeys’ occurrence, the density of monkeys’ ditribution and thedistence between different factors and center point of monkeys’ area of activiy as thestandard for quality of monkey habitat. This study is based on landscape ecology todemonstrate the connection between the landscape spatial pattern analysis and theSnub-nosed Monkey landscape population in the study area. This will offer guidanceto biodiversity conservation efforts and nature reserve management. The Snub-nosedMonkey landscape distribution area patterns located in Yunnan are classified in tofive types by the RS and GIS. They are: Optimal Habitat, Sub-optimal habitat,Suitable/Connection habitat, Natural barrier and Human disturbance. The landscapeindexes of these types can be calculated and applied into the correlative analysisbetween their appearance possibility and distribution density. Meanwhile, we makefurther study about the effect on the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey by humandisturbance and predict the potential habitat. We make a correlation analysis amongthe distance between pixels and central point in area which monkey lives, distancebetween pixels and Human disturbance factors, distance between pixels and river, habitat patterns by Arcgis9.3.The result shows:(1)Human disturbance have a significant impact on quality ofmonkey habitat, which mainly shows in the aspects on effecting the number ofoptimal habitat and obstracting the connection of optimal habitat.(2) The mosteffective way to habitat protection of the Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys is to increasethe connection between optimal habitat and suboptimal habitat.(3) Boundary effect isthe key to nature conservation management. Maintaining the connection between theoptimal and similar habitat areas is important to improve the landscape quality.(4)The potential habitat of the Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys has north-south divide, which means the high quality of potential habitat in north is large and integrity, thehigh quality of potential habitat in south is small and dispersed.(5) The46ruralsettlements and4496.081ha farmland should be considered priority in landconsolidation.
