With the development of Wavelength Division Multiplexing(WDM) technology,it’s enormous bandwidth, speed and transparency has deeply changed the way ofpeople’s communication. So it will undoubtedly become the best choice oftransmission applications in the field of optical fiber communication technology. Withthe widely used of WDM system on a global scale and it will moved to the directionof mix, modular and compact. The main theme of this paper is to research modularWDM and the most important point is MUX/DEMUX manufacturing technology.According to type of MUX/DEMUX, they are CWDM, DWDM, OADM,ROADM and VMUX. According to ITU, there are mainly four ITU channel, such as4channels,8channels,16channels and32channels. If it is electrical, we can dividethem without the circuit board module and with a circuit board module. The cost ofmodule is mainly due to the shell, circuit boards, optical components, labor costs andtesting costs, but these are controllable. The most important thing is due to whetherthe technology is advanced and mature, the way is scientific and corrected. Themodern society is filled with competition. So the key are to update the technology andlower the production cost constantly. If not, the products will be replaced by others.From the perspective of practical application, author deeply analyses the designof the MUX/DEMUX module’s circuit board and firmware, optical components,index algorithm, test methods and quality control of critical technology, and illustratesthe importance of reliability test. Author’s innovations include module’s functionmode and firmware writing, multiplex using test system equipment, opticalcomponents calibration method, the algorithm of the data fitting, the PDL matrix andthe calibration table lookup written in C language, etc. MUX/DEMUX module will bemoved to the direction of lower cost, multi-channel and miniaturization in the future.
