Since the late 1980s, there has been a wave of reform on basic education around the world. Facing such trend, China has also launched a reform on basic education. However, the reform was carried out in 2000. China’s first Standard of History Classes in General High School (Test) (hereinafter referred as Class Standard) came out in 2003. The New Class Standard embodies the new spirit and idea in the field of education. According to the new spirit and idea, textbook is no longer a unified book. Instead, several different books can be used under the guide of the Class Standard. The change completely broke the previous traditional forms. In this context, different versions of book together represent the Chinese culture. This measure has enriched the content and forms of expression in textbook and deepened the research of vertical and horizontal comparison among different versions of textbook. Among those different versions of textbook, PEP version and Yuelu Press version are the most distinctive ones. Using the existing researches, and combining the system theory, this paper explores text auxiliary system of history textbook. Auxiliary system can be divided into three different parts:pre-class delivery system, explaining system during class and post-class consolidating system. In this paper, the specific elements of these three systems are sorted out carefully. After gaining a clear understanding of the theory, the comparison study on auxiliary system between PEP version and Yuelu version will be given, and merits and demerits of PEP version and Yuelu version shall be discussed so that a rational, scientific and efficient auxiliary system can be developed to meet the learning requirements and conginitive requirements of students. This paper is divided into four parts.The first part is about a general overview of auxiliary system for history textbook from the point of topic origin, research status, research method and ideas.The second part deals with the research on text auxiliary system of history textbook. And the clear line was drawn between the structure system and auxiliary system from the point of definition. In addition, analysis and instruction are explored from the perspective of constituent elements, content and function.In the third part, a comparison is discussed after choosing some representative contents of political history, economic history and cultural history from PEP version and Yuelu version, and similarities and differences between the auxiliary systems are introduced.At last, recommendations are given to improve the teaching auxiliary system after analysis, interviews and surveys.
