Study Of The Career Orientation For The Student Of The Master Of Nursing Specialist

Objective: On January2010, we have set the Master of Nursing Specialist (MNS) andratified28colleges and universities. As a new type of degree, how to cultivate the students,what can they do after graduation; what jobs can be better reflects the value of the students.This problem must be resolved as soon as possible. As a starting point of the education,finding the right position of the students will be the urgent need to think and solveproblems. This study takes the relationship between the education of MNS and the licenseof nursing as a point, according to comparative the relationship between the graduateeducation of nursing and the licensure of nursing in other countries, and combine with thestatus quo of the student’s self-position in our country, to put forward a proposal for thecareer orientation of our MNS students.Methods: This study included two parts: one is comparative study of the graduateeducation of nursing and the licensure of nursing at aboard, the other is analysis study ofthe MNS student career orientation of our country. The first part mainly adoptedcomparative study to collect the information about the education of nursing, the licensureof nursing and their relationships in USA, Australia and UK, to sort out the relationshipamong the education of the nursing, the license of nursing and the relationship between theeducation of the nursing and the licensure of nursing, and put emphases on the graduateeducation of nursing, the graduate licensure of nursing and between the graduate educationof nursing and graduate licensure of nursing.finally, explored the common ground. Thesecond part we interviewed and investigated the students to learn about the studentsself-position, and then interviewed the nursing experts to know about the perspective andsuggestion of nursing experts for MNS students. In the end, make the suggestion of thestudent’s career orientation.Results:1. There are some common things among the three countries by comparative study: set upthe role of advanced practice nurse, set up the specialized graduate projects or directionsfor cultivate advanced practice nurse, the education of the Master of Science in Nursing islinked up with licensure of the advanced practice nurse, and they have perfect regulatory system to ensure the convergence, licensure of nursing is complete and hierarchy is clear,the graduate licensure of nursing is standardized, and flexible personalized training plan.2.11students from3universities in ShangHai were interviewed and13universities from11provinces in7geographical areas total of150students were investigated, and knowabout the status quo of the career orientation of the students. The results shows that theMNS students should further to transfer their direction of career orientation; to set up thespecialized role for MNS students so that reflect the advantages of the professional and thevalues of themselves; to further improve course and clinical rotation arrangement; andwhether or not have work experience have an influence on the different career orientationof the MNS students in some extent.3.7nursing experts from universities and hospitals were enrolled by purposive sampling,and the data were collected by semi-structured in-depth interview. We know that the careerorientation of MNS students is fuzzy, deviate of the direction and urgent needed clarity; thecareer orientation of the MNS students should be carry out the “three steps” strategy; andsound perfect the education system of MNS to promote the advantage of professioncompetitive; Standardized the professional qualification system of nursing so that build theconvergence of the education of MNS and the licensure of nursing as soon as possible.Conclusion: Based on summing up the experience of aboard and combined with ournational condition, to make recommendations for the career orientation of the MNSstudents. Mainly including: Education realm, improve and perfect the education systemwhich is linked up with the advanced practice nursing roles; Practice realm, deepening thereform of the professional qualification system and set up the advanced practice nursingroles; Policy realm, implement the convergence between the education of MNS andadvanced practice nursing roles step by step; at the same time, Social realm, everydepartment collaborates to promote the career orientation of MNS students.
