Analysis On Mortality Status In Residents In Wujiang District, Suzhou City During 2008-2012

Objective: Through the analysis of death-cause monitoring data for Wujiang District during 2008-2012, to master the health level, death status and health need of the residents in Wujiang District under the current social and economic circumstance, and also estimate the health condition of the whole district, which could provide the basis for developing healthcare policy, distributing healthcare resources and etc.Methods: The causes of death are classified and coded according to ICD-10. Using the national population census data in 2000 with classified aged and gender, the standardized rate is calculated by direct method. In order to understand the characteristic of death structure among residents, aspects including mortality, standardized mortality, cause-specific mortality rate, proportional mortality rate, life expectancy and Potential Years of Life Lost(PYLL) are analyzed. Excel 2003 and SPSS18.0 are used for statistical analysis.Results:1、The average population of Wujiang District was 798783 during 2008-2012. The accumulative death population during this period was 29462, with an average annual crude mortality rate of 737.67/100,000(29462/3993917) and a standardized mortality rate of 323.48/100,000. The death population was 16141(816.53/100,000 for mortality rate)for male. The death population was 13321(660.39/100,000 for mortality rate) for female.2、The top ten causes of death in Wujiang District, Suzhou City during 2008-2012 were circulatory system diseases, tumour, respiratory diseases, injury and poisoning, digestive diseases, other diseases, endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases, nervous system disease, mental disorder, and urinary and reproductive system diseases, which caused 29877 deaths,accounted for 98.35%of a total in the five years.3.There were 11540 deaths because of circulatory system disease in Wujiang District, Suzhou City during 2008-2012, which was at the top one place of the death list, with 288.94/100,000 for the crude mortality rate.4.There were 7218 deaths because of tumour in Wujiang District, Suzhou City during 2008-2012, with a crude mortality rate of 180.72/100,000. The male mortality rate for tumour was 243.12/100,000, and the female mortality rate for tumour was 119.58/100,000. The top ten tumour diseases occupied 66.54% of total tumour diseases. The fatal top five tumour diseases were lung cancer, stomach cancer, liver cancer, esophageal cancer and colorectal cancer. The mortality rate of lung cancer was at the first place, and the stomach cancer was at the second place, and liver cancer at the third place.5.There were 2146 deaths because of respiratory diseases in Wujiang District, Suzhou City during 2008-2012, which was at the third place of the death list, with a crude mortality rate of 99.43/100,000. Over half of them died from Chronic lower respiratory diseases. People over 65 years old with respiratory diseases had the highest mortality rate.6. There were 1781 deaths because of the residents who died from injury and poisoning in Wujiang District, Suzhou City during 2008-2012,which were at the forth place of the death list, with a crude mortality rate of 44.59/100,000. The main causes were motor vehicle traffic accidents, transport accidents except motor vehicles, accidental falls, drowning and suicide, accounted for 86.45% of.a total7、Life expectancy for male in Wujiang District, Suzhou City during 2008-2012 was 78.54, and for female was 83.47, which was 80.94 totally. At the aspect of PYLL and rate of PYLL, tumour was at the first place of the rate of PYLL list. Injury and poisoning was at the second place, heart disease at the third place, cerebrovascular disease at the forth diseases and nervous system diseases at the fifth place. The PYLL caused by injury and poisoning is lower than that by tumour, but AYLL caused by them was most significant.Conclusion: Wujiang District, Suzhou City has already marched into the old age society. AYLL has been increased.There are more and more the patients with the chronic non-communicable diseases.Injury and poisoning is an important cause of death.The health issues of male should be given more attention. Therefore, prevention and treatment of chronic diseases and monitoring risk factors should be reinforced, and more attention to male health issues, non-communicable chronic diseases and injuries.
