Objectives:In order to provide the basic reference for improving the level of social intelligence of clinical nurses, we evaluated the current statue of social intelligence level of clinical nurses in a city of Guangdong province and analyze its influent factors and their correlation on caring ability and coping styles; we set up intervention plan of social intelligence for clinical nurses.Methods:Seven hundreds and twenty clinical nurses, who were from eight different level hospitals (two tertiary hospitals, two secondary hospitals, four first-level hospitals) in a city of Guangdong province, were selected by adopting stratified random cluster sampling way. They were asked to answer《The questionnaire of social intelligence, caring ability and coping styles for clinical nurses》. There were600effective copies. The status of social intelligence of the clinical nurses was evaluated and its influent factors were analyzed, and their correlation on caring ability and coping styles were discussed. On the basis of investigation,80clinical nurses who got lowest score of social intelligence were randomly evenly divided into the intervention group (n=40) and the control group(n=40). The clinical nurses in the intervention group was treated with ’the Social Intelligence Intervention Plan’for3months. Then, the intervention effects were evaluated. SPSS13.0was used to analyze statistical data. The statistical methods involved statistical description, t-test, chi-square test, correlate, linear regression analysis and one-way ANOVA.Results:1. The total scores range of social intelligence of the clinical nurses was from69to141, and its average score was (97.12±13.519). In the three dimensions of social intelligence, the highest score was social awareness (34.63±5.118), the following was social skills (32.67±5.005) and social information processing (29.83±6.415). There were significantly statistical difference for the clinical nurses’ scores of the social intelligence among different age, spouse, child, the hospital level, working years, educational level, professional titles, administrative posts, forms of employment, character, specialization interests, monthly income and training (P<0.05).2. The scores range of caring ability of the clinical nurses from124to256, and its average score was (184.66±20.712). In the three dimensions of caring ability, the highest item score was patience (5.75±0.757), the following was knowing (4.98±0.742) and courage (4.41±0.770).3. Problem-solving and help-seeking were mostly frequently adopted for the coping styles among the clinical nurses; the clinical nurses’social intelligence was positively correlated with caring ability, and was positively correlated with problem-solving and help-seeking of coping styles. It was negatively related to self-accusation, retreat, rationalize and fantasy.4. Before intervention, the scores of clinical nurses’ social intelligence, social information processing, social skills and social awareness in the control group were respectively (84.21±3.779),(25.05±1.723),(28.08±2.247) and (31.08±1.600); in the intervention group, they were respectively (83.54±5.868),(24.37±2.734),(28.83±3.544) and (30.34±3.009). There were not significantly statistical difference for the total scores of social intelligence and the scores of the dimensions between the control group and the intervention group(P>0.05).5. After the intervention plan for three months, the scores of clinical nurses’ social intelligence, social information processing, social skills and social awareness in the control group were respectively (83.45±5.033),(25.50±3.740),(27.47±3.916) and (30.47±2.883); in the intervention group, they were respectively (93.54±4.354),(26.00±2.000),(33.37±1.957) and (34.17±1.855). There were not significantly statistical difference for the total scores of social intelligence and the scores of the dimensions between the before and after the intervention plan in the control group(P>0.05). The total scores of social intelligence and the scores of the dimensions in the intervention group were obviously more than those before the intervention plan; there were significantly statistical difference for the scores of social awareness, social skills, social information processing process between the before and after the intervention plan in the intervention group (P<0.05); except for the dimension of social information processing process, there were significantly statistical difference for the total scores of social intelligence and the scores of dimensions between the intervention group and the control group (P<0.05).Conclusions:1. The score of social intelligence of clinical nurses was at the middle level in a city of Guangdong province.2. Higher social intelligence of clinical nurses was, stronger their caring ability was, and more positive their coping styles was.3. This intervention plan could be utilized to train social intelligence of clinical nurses and enhance their intelligence. |
