ObjectivesTo improve the condition of professional competence oriented to postcompetency!of nursing students for English and foreign-related nursingeducation,according to the condition of skills and knowledge oriented to postcompetency! of nursing students in our country for English and difference indiff erent levels of professional competence oriented to post competency! ofnursing students for English.Methods204nursing students’ scores of the same tests of knowledge oriented to postcompetency and skills were selected by cluster sampling and analyzed,compared, through the first competition of professional skills for nursing studentsfor English in our country which was hold by HHRDC in August2012, who arefrom51institutions, including19undergraduate colleges and32junior colleges.The tests of skills were arranged in clinic scenes which are familiar with nursingstudents, especially for post competency, humanistic care in nursing andcommunicating skills in English. The skills which are selected from basic nursingoperation, basic nursing skills and first aid nursing emergency are usedfrequently in clinic such as making an anesthetic bed, phleboclysis and CPR.Results1.The scores of knowledge test of undergraduate nursing students forEnglish were in the levels of good, medium, pass and not passed respectively with5.26%,2.63%,19.74%,72.37%.2.The scores of knowledge test of nursing students from junior college forEnglish were in the levels of medium, pass and not passed respectively with0.78%,8.60%,90.62%.3.The difference of scores of knowledge test between nursing students forEnglish from undergraduate colleges and junior colleges is statisticallysignificant(P <0.01).4.The difference of scores of expression in English,communication skillsand average score of three kinds of skills between nursing students for Englishfrom undergraduate colleges and junior colleges is not statistically significant(P>0.05).5.Nursing students’ scores of making an anesthetic bed for testing basicnursing service oriented to post competency were in the levels of good, medium,pass and not passed respectively with58.82%,29.41%,9.80%,1.96%.6.Nursing students’ scores of phleboclysis for testing clinic nursing skillsoriented to post competency were in the levels of good, medium, pass and notpassed respectively with41.17%,31.37%,23.53%,3.92%.7.Nursing students’ scores of CPR for testing first aid technique oriented topost competency were in the levels of good, medium, pass and not passedrespectively with54.90%,29.41%,13.73%,1.96%.ConclusionsAccording to the research, the condition of skills and knowledge orientedto post competency!of nursing students for English were not good. So it isnecessary for our country to take measures in cultural differences, theapplication of English, nursing knowledge and skills to advance higherforeign-related nursing education and level of nurses for foreign countries.
