ObjectiveTo investigate the knowledge, attitude and behavior of AIDS among floating population of Nanyang, to explore main factors affecting knowledge, attitude and behavior, and in order to facilitate the development of AIDS prevention and control strategies.Materials and Methods1. Object. A sampling frame was established in floating population of Nanyang central city. Through quota sampling, a total of 1600 floating population from 6 different venues were on the demographic information in construction sites, factories, markets, hotels, restaurants, leisure and entertainment class workplaces.2. Investigation questionnaire. Reference to national standards and the same research data, under the guidance of relevant experts designed the "floating population questionnaire about knowledge, attitude and behavior of AIDS".3. Methods. Anonymous questionnaire was taken by the uniform training of investigators. A series of strict quality control measures were adopted to collect, sort out, and perform entry processes. The survey data were inputted and checked by using EpiData3.0 software and analyzed by the SPSS12.0 analysis software.Results1. The basic features of research object The total number of floating population surveyed this time was 1600 and 1580 valid questionnaires were collected, the valid response rate reached 98.75%. Among the 1580 people surveyed, the youngest respondents was 16 years old, while the oldest was 59 years old, mainly composed of people of 20 to 39 years old which accounted for 72.10%. The average age was 28.7 years old. Most of them received middle school education, accounting for 56.71%. Male population proportion was 45.32% while female was 54.68%.2. The awareness of relevant knowledge of AIDS by the floating population The awareness rate of basic spreading channel of AIDS/HIV was over 75%, while the awareness rate of non-spreading channel was 60%. The awareness rate of prevention knowledge was below 50%. The overall awareness rate of basic AIDS information was 41.52%. The awareness situation of basic AIDS information were different by sex, by age, by education level and by professions and such awareness difference has statistical significance (P<0.05). The higher education people received, the higher their awareness rate of AIDS knowledge(P<0.05).3. The relevant attitudes towards AIDS by floating population 51.08% floating population was nervous, afraided of or avoided AIDS virus carriers or AIDS infected patients. Less than half of the surveyed people was willing to work, have dinner, shake hands with or hug AIDS virus carriers or AIDS infected patients. only 15.13% rendered it necessary to show special care to these AIDS carrier or patients. 68.61% of the floating population was against premarital sex while 82.34% of them was against extramarital sex,92.72% of the floating population surveyed disapproves homosexuality.76.65% disagrees with prostitution or whoring. The attitudes difference by sex towards premarital sex, extramarital sex, homosexuality, prostitution and whoring had statistical significance(P<0.05).4. AIDS-related behavior of the floating population Among the surveyed population that had sexual experiences,17.24% of them used condom during the last sex with their fixed sex parter; 51.79% of them never used condom during sex with their fixed parters in the past 6 months; 11.04% of them used condom every time. Among the surveyed population that conducts prostitution and whoring.37.68% of them weared condom during their last commercial sex activities.44.93% of them never weared condom during their commercial sex activities in the past 6 months. Only 24.64% of them used condom every time.5. Among the floating population,84 persons had relevant venereal disease symptoms, accounting for 5.32% of the surveyed population. Among the people that had such symptoms,13.10% of them went to venereal disease specialism clinic for outpatient service,10.71% went to general hospital for treatment,29.76% went to private clinic,38.10% bought medicine to treat themsselves,7.14% received no treatment, while other sases accounted for 1.19%.ConclusionsThe knowledge about AIDS of floating population was poor, there were more serious psychological discrimination to HIV infected and AIDS patients. Multiple sexual partners and low rate of condom use will accelerate HIV spread and epidemic among floating population. It is urgent to strengthen AIDS health education and behavior intervention, advocate safe sexual behavior, promote condom use to curb AIDS spread and epidemic among floating population.
