Objective: This study sought to examine the treatment adherence and prospective and retrospective memory and their relationship among patients with diabetes.Methods:90patients with diabetes were recruited from4hospitals in Jinan city. All participants completed assessments of general information, prospective and retrospective memory, and treatment adherence.Results:(1) No significant differences were detected in the treatment adherence for all general information (P>0.05).(2) Patients with different age, household income and residential area differed from each other on the PRMQ score (P<0.05); however, there were no significant differences for other general information on the PRMQ score (P>0.05).(3) Although no significant differences were found on diet adherence, exercise adherence, self-monitor adherence, and regular examination adherence between patients with high PRMQ score and low PRMQ score, these two groups did differ from each other on the medication adherence (P<0.01). Besides, scores on the medication adherence were significantly associated with scores on PM, RM and PRMQ (P<0.05).(4) Regression analysis revealed that PRMQ score accounted for significant variance on scores on the medication adherence (P<0.05), while the general information and PRMQ score did not significantly predict scores on the treatment adherence.Conclusions:(1) Patients with different general information did not differ from each other on the treatment adherence.(2) Patients with different age, household income and residential area differed from each other on the prospective and retrospective memory. Besides, the medication adherence was negatively associated with prospective and retrospective memory.(3) Prospective and retrospective memory is a possible predictor of the medication adherence.
